No, but if I can guarantee that I get $3k of furniture for less than $3k, it is the rational financial decision to make. Rather than let it ride, which may be more fun.

If this dude comes out ahead losing 20 million dollars in cash bets, 1, he has to be the most successful furniture salesman in the history of the world, and 2, he’s got a TOOOOOON of money lol

mattres mack is a genius. he figured out how much he might lose on furniture if the astros win. so he put a bet down where if the astros lose, his earnings from furniture create a profit over his lost bet money. and if the astros win, his bet winnings create a profit over what he has to cover in furniture

It’s almost as if people can do this for a living

There’s would be TONS of money in this.
Especially if using securities

Damn

It’s almost as if he’s hedging his bets

Not really; just shifting his exposure to the other side: he loses if the Astros lose. Without the bets, he loses if the Astros win.

His dad and brother both died with heart problems and Mack (although not a smoker and an avid exerciser/runner) had a heart attack himself.

He had a different habit in his youth that isn't very healthy. Although that was long ago.

Coke. No secret, he's done motivational speaking for years and years.

In the speeches to students he always talked about "getting that monkey off my back. "
