How can these administrators not be facing great ridicule right now? They hid and the corner and never spoke a word all weekend, and then as soon as the Big 10 made their announcement the Pac 12 released their statement shortly after. So how does this conversation go?

“I think we need to cancel fall sports because the risk to our strident athletes is far too great to play. But I’m not going to poke my head out there and have to answer any questions about it, I’m just going to cower in the back and wait for someone else to go first and then we’ll release a statement soon after.”

The Pac 12 will no longer be a "Power 5" conference on the other side of all this.

They were already only a P5 conference in name alone based on the quality of their teams the last few years.

But yeah, any program canceling their seasons while other programs are playing is going to feel a huge burden on recruiting that will last years.

I hope the ACC/SEC/Big 12 play and the bowls go on and the Rose Bowl gets to choose among SEC vs Big 12 or ACC teams left available after all those conferences’ contractual tie ins are filled. Vandy vs Kansas in the Rose Bowl while the PAC-12 and B1G have to sit home and watch would be glorious

ETA: nevermind. Rose is scheduled to be a CFP semifinal game this season

The American Conference is quietly still a go, as of now. This could be a great opportunity for them to boost their status.

You sort of bring up a great point.
If the SEC and others remain and have a season, what a super recruiting point SEC coaches can bring up to players that are considering going to USC, tOSU, etc.

Between recruiting, the financial destruction the AD will feel as a result, and the loss of national reputation, it’s hard not to see how it isn’t basically a program ender for all but the blue bloods for the foreseeable future, and the blue bloods will still be taking it on the chin very hard.

It’s an enormous advantage to those that do go through with playing that will resonate for probably as much as a decade if I had to guess.

The recruiting dominos are already falling.

Oregon was rebuilding and probably has a top 10 roster for the next 4 years.

That’s the only program we will really be missing out on.

I too will miss a team that lost to Arizona State and stayed ranked 6th.

It’s pretty chicken shite. They will always have potential due to location and population but serious recruits should move elsewhere to places that don’t kill nfl hopes bc of “orange man bad”

Someone posted a tweet yesterday as reports were coming out that the Pac 12 was "hesitant" to announce before the B1G did, and honestly, I can't really blame them. Their brand has no leverage to be taking the lead on this.

California has already shut down schools, their blue blood program has been a shitshow on and off the field for a couple of years, they have a TV network with no visibility, and Oregon appears to be the only viable CFP contender right now.

No matter what they actually wanted to do, I think they were always going to stay quiet and cower behind someone else's decision.

There is zero chance that a conference with 2 teams in the LA market is not in the P5. It’s just not going to happen. This is the epitome of “thank u next”.
