for some reason the Pats played to take the game to half
Broncos called timeout with 5 seconds instead of 30 for some dumb reason and then instead of risking a punt, they let Brady chunk up a pass out of bounds to safely take the game to half

With 5 seconds on the clock and 4th down, Kubiak wanted them to have to punt, hoping for some sort of fumbled snap and a scoop and score in the bad weather. So Belichik sent Brady back out to throw a high floating pass out of bounds to eat up the 5 seconds and avoid a punting catastrophe.
