I’m as Patriotic as they come....and I don’t mind the anthem. I just wonder why it’s played. It’s not played before other forms of entertainment. As Divisive as our country has become, it should probably just be played before the teams come out as a compromise.....cause this crap is not ending anytime soon.

Do it college football style. Leave players in the locker room.

Or players could just stop being petulent children and protest on their own time?

So cave to the players? Pass.

Until those players are directly penalized, they won’t stop. Puts the owners in a tough spot though

Make them stay in the locker room, but show previous footage of them all standing on the Jumbotron just to piss them off.

I agree, but that’s not going to happen.

The frick? No.

Just because the NFL and the NFLPA can’t get their shite together doesn’t mean we should cater to them. 0 players in the NBA knelt for the anthem last year. 0 will kneel this year.

We didn't start playing the national anthem before sporting events until WWI. So pro baseball for about 40 years never played it before the game. It wasn't played before boxing, wrestling or horse racing until after and there's scant evidence that it was played before college football until after baseball started doing it.

Yes. National anthem should be reserved for international sporting events. It's been cheapened by overuse.

So what you’re saying is we’ve done it for over 100 years...

I consider myself a patriot but I’ve always found it completely bizarre we play the NA before sporting events.

I mean...why? Think about it for a second. It makes no logical sense whatsoever. Truly weird.

Yeah, but we've gone without it before. It makes no difference to me, it's a nice tradition, but I wish the NFL would cut a deal with the CFL and have teams in Canada so we can have the their anthem played also and see what happens then.

Why do a lot of traditions start?

It’s part of the fabric now and is a way to remind people what you have isn’t free. Pay your respects.

Do you think I don’t? I love America and I say IF we are going to play it your sure as hell better stand or frick you.

But I’m simply talking about the logic behind playing it before random sporting events that seemingly have no connection whatsoever to national pride or patriotism. Just boil it down to its essence. It’s weird. But whatever. I know it’s hard to have philosophical discussions on here without people getting butthurt.

I agree if we pay respect to all Americans. It shouldn't be reserved just for military personal and veterans. I think the issue is the militarization of the national anthem. National anthems get played in the Olympics without the militarization aspects of it. Do we need a color guard? Does it have to be about honoring veterans and people in the military? Can it just be the national anthem? Cut out the military aspects and the law enforcement aspects and I think the issue goes away.

It was always this way in the NFL, up until recently.

I wondered if the stupid networks wanted players out, os they could get shots of players with hands over hearts, singing, etc?
