I think he is HOF worthy. When he was Baltimore he turned in one of the great postseasons of all time. In the 1997 playoffs he compiled 41 strikeouts in 29 innings while only giving up 4 earned runs. He was dominant that year.

But I would put in Brett Saberhagen, Orel Hershiser, and Cliff Lee(if he retired today) before Mussina.

why is that so hard to believe? glavine had a 3.54 era with a ton of plus defenders behind him in the NL. mussina had a 3.68 era in bandboxes in the al east
so that makes Mussina way better than Glavine?
Glavine won the Cy Young twice. That means he was the best pitcher in his league...TWice.... He finished runner up, twice. And 3rd, twice. .......yet Mussina was way better.
I dont know. I guess im missing what makes him way better.
And defensive metrics are silly.

9 times he finished in the top6 for Cy Young voting
So he was top 12? You realize there are two of those per year, right?

there's a difference between being the best pitcher in your league and winning the cy young. i know it's my opinion against the baseball writers, but i don't think either one was ever the best pitcher in their league

Yes, I do. I also realize that he was a Top 10 pitcher more years than not.

well thats certainly HOF worthy stuff

CLiff Lee has consistently been a top 5 pitcher in the world since 2008(2012 maybe being the exception). Mussina was that for 1 or 2 years

I was on the fence but then I saw some number I'd say yes

Since when does Jeff Blauser qualify as a plus defender? Lemke was of course excellent, but get out of here acting like Glavine had plus defenders all over the place for most of his career. The only places he had plus defenders were in 2B and CF for most of his career. He had Weiss and Furcal for a few years, but he lost Lemke then so it pretty much balanced out.
Using any FIP stat to look at Glavine is pretty silly, as it's specifically calculated in a way that would discount everything Glavine did.
Glavine and Mussina were both compilers, but Glavine had a better peak IMO. Not that I consider them that far apart really. Mussina belongs in most likely, though he's borderline hall of very good.

No. Not a top 5 pitcher of his era.

No. If you have to ask, the answer is always no.
Very good pitcher, very good career. Not an all time great.
