Correct, which is why a 12 team playoff is asinine

Sankey insisted on 12 teams in an effort to get four teams in. Apparently he did not consider that the SEC is only going to have three teams with two losses or less per year.

Home field advantage in below freezing temps is a huge factor in these games.

In the NFL they play enough teams in other divisions in the conference to say teams earn home field advantage. Even with that there is always talk of going by records not division winner for home field.

In college Teams are barely playing same teams in conference play with these super conferences and same amount of conference games as prior years. You then have to try and compare across conferences with far less games against similar opponents or no set quantities like big10 and SEC play 2 games against teams from the other conference to get enough teams playing each other to get a better idea of how at least 2 conferences compare.

Home field in college gives a greater advantage than in the NFL and that’s before you get to weather issues due to not playing in dooms like many NFL teams do. Without enough data to get a fair comparison of conferences and teams across conferences there either needs to be a tie breaking like process with multiple steps if required that decides home field (seeding) without a poll or committee vote (might not be always be right but everyone knows the process from the start of the season and can calculate possibilities on their own) or just book neutral stadiums for this round as well.

Nope.

Just because year 1 wasn't perfect doesn't mean 12 was too many.

Current situation just needs a seeding tweak.

Alternative is meaningless bowl games with depleted rosters due to opt outs.

You people advocating for less playoff games are ignorant.

Six or at most eight.

This year and last year needed more than four, but realistically no year needed more than eight. I’m glad it expanded beyond four but I think we’ve seen enough to know the jump from 4 -> 12 was too much

I’m still unsure between six and eight, but leaning six. There are occasional insane years like 2007 that could make six too few, but even 2007 could have cut off at eight without issue. The tradeoff for any number N is “are you willing to risk a legitimate contender ranked (N+1) being denied a shot at the title in order to maximize the number of games between only worthy teams?” And I think both six and eight are within tolerable limits there, where four was too few and twelve is apparently too many.

There has never been a season where even 6 teams had legit claims to a title or playing for a title. 12 is an absurd number. 4 has always been the right number.

It's kind of bullshite that If Georgia and Texas make it to the championship game that Georgia would have to beat them 3 times to win the Natty. Not sure how you remedy this now that there's a 12 team playoff because it could happen frequently.. Gotta get rid of the conference championship games.

BCS

That had the exact same teams as the playoff.

Ask someone said earlier ITT, it's a seeding tweak. Once that's fixed, that should alleviate most of the issues.

2. Conference championship games need to go away. Regular season champions get the automatic bid. Eliminating conference championship games would get rid of a Clemson situation where a team backdoors into the playoff and would also get rid of a situation where teams like Texas and UGA could play a 3rd time.

See I always thought divisions should be eliminated and you have less playoff teams and then use CCGs as a defacto first round. Keeps some of the luster of the regular season and doesn’t push it too far into the playoffs.

It should be a 16 team field. Don't you guys even know how to set up brackets. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64. Those are full brackets. 6 makes the least amount of sense I have ever seen. 12 is just about as stupid. I understand Byes in the NFL because they have actual divisions and want to reward the division champs, but no such system exists in College. They are just random and subjective.
