Well maybe so, for the simple minded people, for whom they are targeting.

I seriously always wondered why wouldn't a company just charge 10% less and say we spend no money on major celebrity, endorsements or advertising or characters such as FLO or the Emu?

Or what about the 35 million give it to Tom Brady, who is checking in just to hear what he has to say on a game?

ROI makes no sense when it comes to celebrities, I just think the executives want to be buddies with them

While commercials haven't influenced me toward a company they most definitely have influenced me away from a company. For some reason I absolutely despise the Flo commercials and refuse to go with Progressive solely because of those commercials, even if they were the cheapest (which they aren't in my area).

I just cancelled Mahomes, Aaron Rogers, and Jake from State Farm because of ever increasing premiums and being a customer for over 20 years.

So I switched to Flow with Progressive for a much lower rate.

Imagine how much cheaper State Farm could be if they didn't waste money on freaking Christ Paul, Pat Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Andy Reid, etc.

And people had to lawyer up after the hurricanes to get fair settlements from these companies.

Donald Staley pitched for Allentown and Valdosta in 1942 & 1946 per baseball reference. Was undoubtedly one of those guys who's career was cut short by WWII.

They probably do but you haven’t heard of them. Most of this is subconscious, you might think ads don’t influence your consumer habits but they definitely do.

Every company wants more market share or at least hold their share.

Advertising works. It has been proven to work since the damn of branded products. Celebrity endorsement has also been proven to work since its inception.

Most people think that advertising doesn't sway them but nobody is immune and it is often on a subconscious level.

More than ever companies and ad agencies track the value of advertising. Ad campaigns fail all the time but anything that runs nationally and runs for extended periods of time are showing demonstrable ROI.

As for commercials being "better" in the past from a consumer POI the majority of that is because you remember the old commercials that worked well to worm themselves into your brain but you tend to forget the ones that weren't effective.
