Ehhh technically sure.

3 points back with 3 to play while the Pens finish with Detroit x2 and the Rangers. I don't see them losing 2 of those.

All I want is WC1 with a legitimate shot at winning a series either vs Caps or Isles.

If Caps pass Bruins for 2 seed that is who you would get first round right? 2 vs WC1. I think that probably happens with who BOS has left and the way the Caps are playing.

ETA: As I say this Detroit scores 2 goals in 8 seconds to take the lead over BOS in the 3rd.

6-3 Detroit beats Boston.

Now I'd be surprised if WAS doesn't get the 2 seed.

No,

WC1 is the wild card with the most points, and plays the winner of the Eastern conference (since Tampa clinched the top seed in the East a while ago).

The 2nd place Atlantic team plays the 3rd place Atlantic, regardless of points.

Oh okay, I thought 1 seed played WC2 and 2 seed WC1.

The winner of the Metro plays a wild card team regardless of an Atlantic team having more points.

Technically the 2 seed is the Metro winner.

They changed it a few years back to force increase divisional rivalries in the playoffs (Metro 2 always plays Metro 3 regardless of points).

There's discussion to go back to 1-8 regardless of division, but the owners in general like the set up.

It is a bit unfair if one division is stacked at the top. But it also helps rivalries which the NHL needed for teams like Columbus.

Right, the 2 division winners play a wildcard team.

The division winner with the most points plays the lesser wildcard team.

NHL's page states:

quote:

In the First Round, the division winner with the best record in each conference will be matched against the wild card with the lesser record; the wild card with the better record will play the other division winner.

So this is Tampa vs Carolina right now.

If Washington wins the Metro as they should, they play the other wildcard no? Which would be CBJ.

1-8 is an awful idea

Why recognize divisions if you’re doing that? I mean in the early 80’s they did league wide 1-16 and everyone hated it. The Habs beat Oilers first round.

The current format is fricking trash, been sick of the same matchups for awhile already. Oh hey look Pens vs Caps round 2 for 5,000th time. shite is super lame, worst format in pro sports.

Yeah. CBJ isn't catching the Pens, so they either get Tampa or the Caps.

Good luck, would be fun series' to watch either way.

CBJ seems to have gelled (24 goals in 5 games) and Bob is playing incredibly well.

But until he does it in the playoffs, it means nothing.

I think they could beat the Caps, Bolts on the other hand not so much.

Yah, not likely to beat the Bolts, but stranger things have happened.

Not good that we havent beat them in over 2 years though

WC1 would be great, and let the chips fall where they may.
