Both were winning and doing great things with their G5 programs. If they both would have stayed what do you think would have happened? I don’t think either would have gotten into the playoffs but if they have multiple NY6 bowl wins they continue to get better recruits which would continue their NY6 wins. This is totally hypothetical baws and was interested in what the MSB thoughts are.

Tom herman just really thought he was/is the smartest person in the world. Combined with the fact that he also comes across as awkward, he was just in over his head at a place like UT. I bet he eventually lands on his feet at another small program/not massive p5 and has some success

The problem for frost is nebraska. Its dead and never coming back

Hard to say - the G5 is weird bc you basically have to go undefeated to get into NY6 and/or playoff discussion in the old system and that’s often not even enough. You need a certain amount of luck to run the table and your margins for error are small with your 3-star players.

Who knows in this 12-team playoff era if G5 teams get the benefit of the doubt from playoff committees - I would guess not considering who the committee is comprised of.

Herman by a lot. Yes he’s a weirdo and yes he’s kind of a douche but he improved Texas avg win total by about 3-4 games per year and made it to a Conf title game in year 2. Frost is a bum, he’s a lot like Kevin Sumlin in that he just copy/pasted that offense instead of putting his own personal stamp on it. Nebraska’s actually gotten worse under him and that didn’t happen with Herman at Texas so it’s a pretty easy call here IMO.

Going by the rating "stars" Nebraska has out recruited Wisconsin, by a lot generally, since they came to the B1G yet we treat them like a plastic frick doll.

Tells me it's a coaching problem.

I admire him going to his alma mater, but Frost messed up so bad going to Nebraska.

Nebraska
3 years under Riley
W-L
19-19

3 years under Frost
12-20 (7 game dive after he took over)

Texas 4 years under Herman
W-L
32-18

4 years prior (3- Strong, 1-Brown)
24-26 (8-5 Brown’s last year)
+ 8 improvement under Herman …..

That’s +15 games in favor of Herman

Frost’s problem is Frost. Nebraska is terrible too but Frost is overrated.

Frost was an idiot for leaving UCF. I know Nebraska was his alma mater but he could e had a better job probably FSU or something in the south.

Nebraska is a nightmare to recruit.

You’re correct, they’ll never get the depth they need to compete with a modern style. Nebraska has to go back in time offensively. That doesn’t have to mean I-option again but they have to run a style that limits the amount of elite talent at their playmaker positions.

Herman lucked into a great situation at Houston. Levine was a recruiting monster and Sumlin had it rolling before him. Frost is a head scratcher. He built UCF. I guess he thought his system would work at Neb, but at a certain level, you can't win without talent.

That is true. Not sure if people know that. While Herman came into a great situation he did help keep it going forward. The HTown takeover was legit and it would have been cool to see what would have happened if Herman stayed.

Tom Herman has never had a losing season; 5 bowl wins

Scott Frost has only had one winning season in his coaching career

it was entirely built off sumlin being a lame duck coach heading into 2017 and was basically immediately ended by Jimbos first full class

When I think of Tom Herman I think of that guy who was a hot name in the coaching world, got hired by Va Tech. He was so success there I have forgotten his name and really don’t care enough to google him to find out.
