Feels like Simmons finally played the Boss man card. He wasn't happy with the infrequency of Dual Threat podcasts, Russillo splitting content with his ringer and espn podcasts, and spending time on ESPN platforms instead of producing more ringer content.

I don't even think he's right leaning. He just likes to get things right and doesn't buy into outrage culture. He also understands that the victim status of some people that our progressive overlords apply to minorities and women don't necessarily make them oppresed. Very obvious stuff for a normal person.

That's a crap take.

Dual Threat was a product of it being NFL season, and for a while there just wasn't much content. I'm fairly certain Simmons was fully aware of Russillo's obligations to ESPN when he signed him up for the limited work.

I think it's more of having RR on the BS podcast and it going so well. They probably looked at the numbers and realized this needed to be a regular thing. And even though he was still working with them, I'd bet the relationship with ESPN was somewhat cool ever since his drunken incident. And it was probably an easy decision for Russillo if he was starting to feel his time was being split up too much. Free creative reign on The Ringer with people he really enjoyed working with, or playing by ESPN's rules. Kind of felt like he had 2 part time jobs and wanted something more firm.

And on the subject of the new pod with SVP, IMHO, it wasn't the same as back in the day. To me it seemed like they were trying to force that same on air chemistry, but how was that going to work when Ryen is now a force of his own and not just SVP's "sidekick". They are very good friends, Russillo saying SVP is his best friend, but I think their brands have officially moved away enough from each other that it wasn't going to click the same way.

He told this story from a year or two ago when he was watching a Red Sox baseball game, and at the same time the USWNT was playing a friendly. Russillo tweeted something about the Red Sox bullpen, and all of the sudden he was bombarded with tweets about "how could you be watching baseball and not supporting our women" and accusations about him being insecure as a man.

"You know what, maybe you're right, but I don't think it has anything to do with my baseball tweet."

So dumb

Yeah Russillo has been on the ropes at ESPN for a while.

Simmons joked several times during their pods that Russillo was doing all his best content on his ESPN pod and not for the Ringer. Sure it was a joke, but the jokes were founded in reality.

With CFB and NFL right around the corner, Russillo had a lot of content to offer. Particularly with CFB because that hasn't been the Ringer's strong point. I doubt Simmons wanted Russillo splitting that content.

Finally, Simmons probably felt that there is no reason Russillo couldn't have SVP be a guest on Ringer pods, similarly to how Zach Lowe comes on his pod.

Im 100 percent sure this came down to him not wanting Russillo splitting content anymore.

They hung out pretty regularly, too. So I'm sure there were plenty of discussions about this, about what Russillo wanted to really do in the future. He moved to L.A. to become a writer, but that's a very slow go. They probably have grand plans for him and The Ringer.

Like I already posted, I don't thinking it was working like they were hoping. And with him going full time to another site, was really no point in trying to force it anymore.

Looking at twitter from yesterday, apparently yesterday was also Russillo's birthday.

Big Cat and PFT aren’t MAGA. Dave, yes. But Big Cat and PFT aren’t Trump supporters. Not sure why you would think that.

But they all stay out of politics in any serious manner. Which I like. But you can get a feeling based on their jokes about which way they lean.
