Roughing penalty wasnt the biggest mistake on that drive

It's easy to point out the roughing call at the end as what cost the Bengals that game, but the biggest mistake on that drive came on special teams. Giving up a 30 yard return to give Patrick Mahomes the football at midfield, only needing a field goal to win, was a bigger error. If the punt was properly kicked and covered, it wouldve been first down at the 20-25 yard line instead of the 50 and we wouldnt even be discussing the roughing call, just whatever nonsense happened in overtime

Hard to have proper coverage when there’s an uncalled block in the back

So the block in the back and the holding that occured on that play wouldn't be a reason for a 30 yard return? The cameras showed the coaches going ape shite for Cincinnati and immediately cut away without the announcers saying anything. They were pissed, and rightfully so.

He had a 15-20 yard cushion when he caught the ball. Block in the back or not, it was a bad punt

There was a pretty blatant block in the back on a defender that was in the position to make the tackle.

This, and wasn't the first low line drive punt of the game. Unfortunately that game ball from last week went to his head

The Chief player pretty much stood still and hip checked the bengals guy. It wasn’t a blatant missed block in the back

Bizarre thread to make this post in.

ETA Why the downvotes? This thread is about the actual play on the field mattering more than melting about refs.

I don't think the refs are the only reason they lost. The OL is by far the bigger reason and playcalling was suspect too, especially on the second to last drive with two deep balls on 2nd and 3rd down and 3. They had a chance to put a long drive on the clock, run game was starting to open up.

But Chris Jones was embarrassing double teams in pass pro all night and he was MVP of that game.

Not giving 77 help on Jones and not running the ball more were the two biggest reasons KC won.
The shitty officiating just gives fans more ammunition for the NFL is rigged group.

LOL the gunner was blocked illegally. The entire CIN sidelines saw it in real time and were going crazy.

Again, if a team has a player in place to make a play and the refs are rigging the game, what is that team supposed to do?

The temperature was 22°. I don't think anyone should have been expecting a 5 second hang time with a fair catch.

Then you punt it towards the sideline and not in the middle of the field. KC punter had a 44 yard punt with a 5 yard return, had a 42 yard punt with no return, and two other punts kicked out of bounds inside the 10. There’s a lot of grey between a 54 yard punt and far out kicking your coverage and a 5 second hang time punt.

It was a poor punt.

And I would say, not blitzing enough on a gimpy ankle QB, especially the last drive of the game. 3rd down, I send the house at Mahomes.

The point is really moot, but for argument sake the Cincy punter, going into that last punt, averaged 50 yards per punt with KC avg 4 yds per return.

Was his other 3 punts terrible as well??

His best punt was a shank that happened to take a few good bounces. He had another punt where he outkicked his coverage and allowed a big gain but was saved by a holding penalty on the return. Had another punt where he, again, outkicked his coverage and allowed a 12 yard return. He did not have a good day after having a great day last weekend.
