Coker, a two-time state championship winning coach, battled Stage IV colon cancer. Throughout his fight, the Minden native continued to help and inspire others through his “Win the Day Foundation.”

After concluding his coaching career, he served as athletic director for Airline High School, until his retirement in 2021.

Coker was 58 years young.

Very sad situation. Our family knew him and his very well, went to church with them, he taught me and my brothers at Airline, and my little brother and I played under him when he had his Academy. Great man of faith, one of, if not the best HS baseball coach in the state during his time, and overall great guy...even if he was a Yankees fan.

The world lost a good one.

My condolences! May he R.I.P.! God bless! :prayers: Even if he was a Yankees fan. You couldn't resist that one, huh? Btw, I'm a Yankees fan!

The best baseball mind I’ve ever been around.

Seeing what that cancer did to him and his body was gut wrenching. He’s now in a much better place. RIP Coach.

I would have to agree.

I saw him probably 3 weeks ago at church I think that was the last service he went to. And you’re right, he is in a much better place.

I read about this last night on my FB page. I grew up near him, near his age...lots of mutual friends. He was just enough younger than me that I didn't know him in HS.
Looking at his life, the way he fought...what an amazing man. Continually setting a great example and walking with God. He was so well known and respected in the Louisiana baseball world.

If y'all look down his page, last month, his family friends, local schools, students, etc. painted prayer pickets and put them in his fence. It was such an outpouring of love and support for him.

All this. Our church went to his house a couple weeks ago and held Wednesday service there. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend, but it had to lift his spirits immensely.

No, he did not. He was the Athletic Director at Airline when Hayden was there.

My dad played against him too. My dad went to Huntington and said they absolutely HATED Minden High and it was not uncommon for a fight to break out during their games. Minden was stacked in football and baseball in those days.

Minden had a stretch with some pretty good ballplayers.

Leaving the parking lot of their field could get dicey if the fans were not happy.

I played against him when he was the coach at Parkway in the mid to late 90s. My senior year, 1997, we went 0-4 against him. They were stacked.

His '97 team was state runner up to John Curtis. IIRC it was a flyball in B7 that 2 outfielders collided to allow 2 runs to score on a walkoff. That team, full of Juniors that went on to play college ball, won it all in '98.

Played HS ball with his nephew, so got to know him pretty well back then. Pretty sure Coach played on all 3 Minden state championships from 1981-1983, but I could be wrong. His age matches up with all 3 teams.

He was a great coach, and an even better person.
Rest in Peace Coach Ronnie Dean.
The legacy and impact you made on so many lives will live on forever.

Our pastor in Benton spoke about him Sunday morning and had been with the family earlier that week. One of my high school coaches played for him at Parkway. He brought a lot of Coach Coker’s philosophies and drills with him. Would have loved to have met the man.

RIP Coach

Block in Jonesville. Little 1A school. Coach Ferrington’s family was originally from Catahoula Parish and he married a girl from there so they moved back for awhile to be closer to family while she was getting a graduate degree.

Natchitoches Central was worse...

We won on a controversial call at home, tried to leave as soon as possible because they were attacking our bus.
