Roger Goodell negotiating a contract extension with NFL Owners

Roger Goodell is negotiating a contract extension for the fourth time, sources said, believing it is likely the NFL commissioner will have a new deal in place in the coming months.
The NFL team owners’ desire to renew Goodell’s contract marks a big vote of confidence in his leadership through the pandemic and can be seen as a sign of his own growing confidence and security in the role since the last deal he signed in 2017.
“He’s at the top of his game right now,” said one owner. “Why would we want him walking out the door?”
The NFL denied negotiations are occurring. “There is no truth to this report,” said Brian McCarthy, league vice president of communications.
If completed, a new deal would upend the conventional wisdom that Goodell would leave shortly after the 2020 collective-bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association and the 2021 media rights deals. When he signed his last extension in 2017, then-NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart stressed that this would be Goodell’s last contract, though Goodell himself never said that. Goodell turns 63 on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Steps toward a new contract can also be viewed as a recognition that he lacks any obvious successor. Internally, Chief Media and Business Officer Brian Rolapp long has been seen as Goodell’s most logical replacement, but insiders say he has more work to do to woo owners.
Sources said Goodell’s negotiations are centered on extending his current deal for between two to four years beyond its expiration date of March 2024. He reportedly made $63.9 million in each of the past two seasons as part of his current incentive-laden deal. The economic framework of a potential new deal is unknown.

This guy has bungled every challenge the league has faced the last two years and they want to give him an extension?

If I could have anyone in the world fired it would be Roger Goddell.

He takes all the heat for those doddering old billionaires owners. They don't want anyone who would actually be good at that job. A good commissioner would boot Dan Snyder out of the league, do something about the shitty state of officiating, put a halt to those stupid Thursday games, go back to a 16 game schedule, etc. You just want someone who won't upset the status quo.

I guess Goodell gets credit for the recent playoffs and how good it was

The owners are making a shite ton of money. Why wouldn't they? Plus he's the perfect face for everyone to hate for owners to avoid certain scrutiny's.

Yea he has accepted his Heel role over the past half decade pretty well. He begs for the boos now and it's pretty entertaining

He makes them lots of money
Plus he acts as a focus of anger for the fans, deflecting from the owners

It’s pure Idiocracy. It’s up to the owners to stand up & get rid of him but they won’t because he takes all the hits for them. They are pure cowards.

Goodell is teflon. I kind of admire his resilience.

I was with you until this point. The owners love this as it will generate more revenue, which in turn would generate a higher salary cap giving players more money. I actually think they will get up to 18, then 20 games in the next few years. They need to go back to the 2 bye weeks, allow teams to increase practice squad and game day rosters, and only 2 game preseasons to make it happen.

You actually do want a CEO/commissioner that upsets the status quo. If not, then you are getting stagnate, which makes the CEO/commissioner replaceable. You just need to make sure those changes generates more money (which to date appears they are)

The fact that this is the successor tells you what's important to the owners.

The game of football is pretty low on their priority list.

Being a scapegoat empty suit pays well. Ask Joe Biden.
