Seriously, Montreal shouldn't sniff another team. What good does that do putting a MLB franchise there? The global market is the US and Latin America...not Canada.

I wasn’t saying Montreal should

PR just shouldn’t

Put a team in Charlotte, Nashville or another Texas team

As someone in Nashville I just don't see it happening anytime soon. The current mayor said there wouldn't be any public funding at the moment. The new MLS stadium will start construction soon and I'm sure the Titans will want upgrades to Nissan Stadium or maybe even a total rebuild. The city seems itching to host a Super Bowl and that will require a retractable roof.

Im all for 32 teams. Id also like to see a shorter schedule, like 146 games a year. More rest sprinkled in. I think more rest plus a slightly shorter schedule = more competitive games. By competitive I mean teams can use their best arms always, and not always have to worry about usage, or have to worry about giving position players needed days off.

Fair enough.

Was just throwing a city out there.

Don't get me wrong it would be awesome to see and the group behind the bid want a stadium where the recycling center is near Nissan Stadium, which most would like to see moved further from downtown.

The article states Manfred said that they are interested in looking internationally as well. I agree with Portland, Charlotte or Nashville as well, but if they are going internationally, San Juan is where i am going. Canada isn't where the growth of the game is. Lets not act like all of San Juan is a dump either. The metro of San Juan is right at 3.2 million. San Juan is considered the most competitive economy, with the highest GDP of any Latin American country by the World Bank. Most importantly, it uses American Currency. Again, i understand it has its poverty, but what city doesn't? I honestly believe San Juan would be a great MLB city.

PR has the population of Mississippi. After the initial support, fan support would be terrible. Add to the fact PR has zero economic growth. MLB is the most expensive professional sports team to operate. You can't just place a team in any location.

Do you realize how popular a team in San Juan would be with Puerto Ricans living within the US as well? There are over 5 million Puerto Ricans living in the states. Baseball would do perfectly fine in San Juan. There is absolutely nothing you can tell me to suggest that they wouldn't sell out every game. They sold out 41 games in 20 mins when the Expos played half their season there. There would be MORE support for a team in San Juan than half the current Major League cities. I just don't buy it.

If Puerto Rico became a state it would instantly be the poorest state by far. Selling out 40 games for dirt cheap prices is not what you build a long term financially successfully franchise around. The Big 3 have no need or reason to expand into Canada or Latin America. A token game or series or two a year just to throw them a bone? Sure. Permanent franchise would be a terrible idea.

Huge difference between 20 games a year there than an entire season and franchise based there

Seems unlikely for us to host without a roof though.

Mexico would be a pretty hard sell to any FA that wasnt born in Mexico and I'm sure even some of those guys wouldnt want to play 82+ games essentially in a warzone

Chicago and Baltimore have MLB teams already. The vast majority of free agents are just going where a job is.

The Expos attendance in Puerto Rico wasn’t very good. They averaged less than 15,000 their first season, and considerably less the seasons season.

Logistically, P.R. would be a nightmare. It’s a thousand miles from Miami. A flight from Atlanta takes 3.5 hours to get to San Juan. Montreal way up in Canada is only a 2.5 hour flight from ATL.

Puerto Rico is bankrupt, and a hurricane recently leveled half the island. They have no money to help finance a new stadium.

No owner is going to risk a billion dollar investment by moving a team to San Juan.
