Obviously it was really bad since he was just diagnosed in March. I figured something was up since they changed the Radio lineup for Carolina Mens BBall. He was the voice of Carolina radio for bball.

Very sad, I had a bowl cut like Laettner in middle school then a flat top like Big E in high school. Seemed like a great dude.

With that timeline and age I'd guess pancreatic cancer. I remember watching him win the title in 1993. RIP big man.

I remember reading it was a rare and advanced form of cancer back in the spring or summer. The tone of the commentary implied it was going to be a very difficult treatment.

What a shame. Guy was only 52 and broadcasting UNC games before all of this.
