At least they didn't go all Santana and throw him out in the 10th with 110+ pitches

They were going to have to do that in the 11th though no matter what

I don't see the big deal. Pitchers have gone well over 120 pitch no hitters

And not many of those were 38 year olds with a long history of chronic injuries who usually don't get up to 100 pitches

The problem is you were going to throw him 11 innings. He couldn't complete the no hitter just by getting through the 10th.

What West coast said plus the stated philosophy by Dave Roberts all season has been to not push our starters pitch count high in an effort to save them for a deep playoff run. Total bone head move by Roberts.

Hinch let his pitcher go 149 with 8 walks in his no hitter.
He was fired the next week. RH kept it under 100, so pull him after 80 next time out. Sorry for you loss.

Edwin '140 pitch, no-hit' Jackson

That's usually about how many pitches he makes in a start......which is another reason to sit him after 9.....and he is an emotional guy, this loss will effect him more than most big league pitchers. Fire Dave Roberts!

I had to look it up, it was over a 7 hour game and went 25 innings. I didn't start watching until like 4 hours in but couldn't move for the last 3+ hours. He pitched 12.1 innings of no hit baseball. That was a performance.

If he had thrown 2 wild pitches he would have locked up a no hitter and been the first player in forever to lose a game with a no hitter
nah.
It wouldn't have been an official 9-inning no-hitter, because he wouldn't have pitched the complete 9 innings. He would have gone 8.1 innings.
Also, the Dodgers won a game in 2008 without recording a hit. Andy Hawkins threw an 8-inning no-hitter for the Yankees in a 4-0 loss in the early '90s.

Does he still get a perfect game if he throws all 9 innings but it's still 0-0? That would have to be a first
Harvey Haddix threw the greatest game ever in baseball and he lost.

One of my favorite baseball cards I own-
Haddix lost his perfect game on an error by his 3rd baseman in the 13th inning.
He then retired, Eddie Matthews on a bunt swing, the runner on first (Felix Mantilla) advanced to second.
Haddix intentional walked Hank Aaron.
LSU's own Joe Adcock would then hit a game winning home run.
Aaron after rounding 2nd base ran to celebrate, the umpire then called Adcock out when he touched 3rd base.
Lew Burdette on why he asked for a 10,000 raise in salary-
"I'm the greatest pitcher that ever lived. The greatest game that was ever pitched in baseball wasn't good enough to beat me, so I've got to be the greatest!"

Doug Fister did almost the exact opposite as Hill did. He gave up a leadoff HR to Cleveland and then pitched 9 innings of no hit ball the rest of the game.
