Ok, there are so many teams being thrown around that i thought i would clear some things up. Two of the neccessary requirements to join the Big Ten are: Be a member of the AAU (Association of American Universities) and be in a state that borders a current Big Ten member. Not being a member of the AAU technically eliminates:

Notre Dame
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Louisville
Kentucky

These two rules in effect take the only possible expansion FBS schools down to 8 schools...although i do think Notre Dame could be made and exception to the rule due to their high academic standards.

Rutgers
Buffalo
Marlyand
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Missouri
Iowa State
Nebraska

That might be a good choice, though I doubt they would move. Don't they have a pretty strong rivalry with Oklahoma and Texas?

I'd say getting a Big East team, such as Rutgers or Syracuse , would be the most likely. Getting Pitt to join would be good, since they have done well in football and basketball, but I doubt Penn State would want them to come.

Kinda always seemed like a Big 10 team to me as far as geography.

Missouri
Pittsburgh

The only two they will serious consider.

I think it's gonna be Mizzou.

Contrary to popular belief, a candidate doesn't need to be a member of the Association of American Universities or be located within the Big Ten footprint or in a bordering state. Though the schools must fit what the Big Ten looks for, "there’s no prescription that you have to have 30,000 undergrads or you have to be a major research institution," a source tells me.

Correct, the Big 10 has said because ND clearly has high academic standards, they'd be an exception. The others wouldn't, though, unless they changed the rules.

I think its either Missouri, Notre Dame or no expansion. Penn St will not allow Pitt to join, just like Ohio St would never allow Cincy to join. Either way we would be looking at a good East/West split:

EAST:

Ohio St
Penn St
Michigan St
Purdue
Indiana
Michigan

WEST:

Missouri/Notre Dame
Illinois
Northwestern
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin

Why do people think the Big 10 has so much pull on the Big 12?

Nebraska has always been a plains team...and that was Big 8 football then, and Big 12 football now.

Mizzou has always been that way as well.

I mean, what the frick does the Big 10 think they can do just jacking a random arse team like Nebraska?

Missouri I COULD see...but ISU also seems liek a candidate. Basically, it seems like Mizzou has their panties in a wad because of bowls...when in fact they could just learn to not choke and man up and get into the BCS.

Texas was a little pissed last year after the three way tie issue...and you don't see them just trying to be bitches and leave the Big 12.

3 of the schools listed Nebraska/Mizzou/Iowa St. were in the Big 8 for nearly 100 years, they then took in CU, and then they took in the Texas & Ok schools.

My personal belief is that it will be Notre Dame. It seems as though all the coaches, AD's and presidents of the Big Ten are all on board this time. I think they will go VERY hard after Notre Dame then Missouri. Im telling you now, watch out for Comcast dropping the Notre Dame/NBC deal in the near future. That could be the push that Notre Dame needs to join the Big Ten. The last time the Big Ten explored the idea in 1999, not everybody was on board. This time is different. I honestly think Notre Dame will join.

Better TV contract = more $$$$$$$

Then again Mizzou is fortunate to play in the black hole division of BCS conferences and might not want to leave.

Mizzou bowl games the last few years. Mizzou beats KU and wins the B12 North, loses, KU goes to a BCS game and Mizzou doesn't. How would and SEC team feel if they lost in the SECCG and didn't make the BCS when a team that lost to one of the SECCG teams got a BCS bid?

Yeah but playing in a Big Ten East would consist of playing...Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin. Thats why the Big Ten wants a Notre Dame or Missouri to add something to the West.

Ask 06 Arky.

Also this has nothing to do with being in the Big XII

This is still better than the Big XII North sadly.
