So Dallas didn't offer much and they got Rondo, doesn't that tell you that if Houston would've offered more than 'not much' they would've gotten Rondo. So obviously Morey thought that Rondo wasn't worth much either. Use your noggin you are arguing against yourself.
They made a substantial offer. My point was they didn't offer anything for him that was going to make them significantly more likely to win the West had they kept those guys.
Houston simply didn't offer as much, but to act like Morey and Houston wanted nothing to do with Rondo is ridiculous and pathetic attempts to rewrite how things went down.
Houston is the better team this season, and people keep praising Morey cause he lucked into Josh Smith who may or may not kill this team in the playoffs.

Do you expect Rajon Rondo to ever wear a Mavericks uniform again? "No, I don't," Rick Carlisle said.

A source from the Celtics front office leaked to the media that they got the sense Houston wasn't interested, but that they were staying in talks in order to raise the asking price for Dallas.

Morey loves "flexibility". Every move he makes is done to set up several moves in the future.
It's like playing pool. He'll take a shot, but he's hitting the cue ball to not only knock his ball in the pocket, but to also ricochet off just right so that he's perfectly lined up for his next shot.
He maintains this flexibility so that when options arise like Corey Brewer or Josh Smith, he's got the assets in place to make a move and land players.
He didn't "get lucky". He talked in the off-season after he struck out on Chris Bosh and the media was ragging on him that he wasn't done. He said there are always options to upgrade mid-season because there are always players available.
He said the team will be much better by the end of the year than they were going into the year, and would be better than last year's team.
Sounds like he can see the future. No, he cannot... but he knows what he's doing and how to build a team.

Yet he has had a team get out of the first round of the playoffs once in 7 years and that was in his 2nd year?
Morey is a very good GM, but Houston fans overrate the living hell out of that guy.
I am glad for their sake he didn't give in for Rondo, because they are an interesting team to watch, but saying he didn't luck into Josh Smith (a max player cut in his second year of the contract) is a bit ridiculous.

Oh shite!
Ron, for your sake I hope you have AT LEAST 4 black friends!

Nelson (back up PG)
Brandon Wright (back up C/PF)
Crowder (back up SF)
mediocre 1st round pick
You aren't giving these guys nearly enough credit. Each one of them would have a place in this series.
You don't think Dallas could use another rim protector after they gave up like 15 dunks last night?
Dallas now has no one who can guard Harden, Crowder could.
Jameer would be a much better option at PG then what they have now

Thing that's important to remember is Rondo is an expiring, so it's not like they tied their hands long-term, and I doubt even with those 3 players, they are winning the West.
So they wasted a ton of very good assets on a player that actually made them worse
What is even more hilarious is looking up and seeing that guys like Dragic and Brandon Knight were moved.

I think you're avoiding the question I asked you. regardless, I've always thought you were black. Maybe the black guy in your sig combined with the word beast in your handle.
Makes me think you're black, but since I'm white, I really dont care what skin color you are.

And we are talking about the present day Rondo. The current Rondo is above average, nothing more.

Daryl Morey entered with a team already in place. The stars were Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.
Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady both were injured a lot at the end of the season when trying to make a playoff run. There is nothing Morey can do about that.
Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady both had what were essentially career-ending injuries. Imagine that... the two franchise players magically disappear into dust and you can't even make a good trade for them. They ended up worthless. Morey could do nothing about that.
So for 3 years after that, Morey had to find a star player without tanking. The owner, Leslie Alexander, did not want to scrap everyone and tank.
With nothing but role players, and no real star player, the Rockets finished 9th in the West 3 straight years, just barely missing out on the playoffs each time. Those Rockets teams were the equivalent of OKC without Durant and Westbrook or the Pelicans without Anthony Davis. And they still competed for a playoff spot.
Then Morey gives max money to bench player James Harden. Many people thought OKC won that trade. I can even pull up the thread here where everyone was talking about how the Rockets got "trade raped".
And since then, he's made a bunch of moves, including signing Dwight Howard, and in the second year of Harden and Howard, the team earned a 2-seed and are looking to make it past the first round.
He re-built a team that lost both of it's star players for nothing in about 3 years.
Morey has done a fine job.

Let's not go overboard here. Three players hardly qualifies as "a ton" and Nelson and Crowder were not going to make an impact on this team regardless.
It would be nice to still have Wright to spell Chandler as Dirk just cannot defend a guy like Smith(although who the hell saw that coming?!).
Rondo fiasco aside, this series will end quickly because Monta Ellis has been dogshit from the perimeter since January and the Mavs have absolutely zero floor spacing without Parsons out there.

At this point, I think Rondo is destined to be an over-paid Knick.
He's going to have to have a similar transformation to Z-Bo's in Memphis. If you can't work with a rookie coach, and you can't work with championship coaches, then who do work with, some re-tread without Authority (Mike Brown, Woodson et al).

thought this for years, but I think he is most underrated owner in the NBA, possibly American sports.
