Remember those few years when the NCAA called the “first four” the 1st round?

That made the actual first round on Thursday and Friday the 2nd Round. That meant if you lost your first game you still make the 2nd Round.
That was a load of bullshite. Thank God they changed to calling it the “First Four” and the actual 1st Round the “1st Round”.
First Four is still kind of dumb. They should call it the Opening Round.

I don’t understand why the first four isn’t the 16 seeds. Why are teams at the 11 seed playing to get in?

Yeah. To me it just makes more sense to put 8 teams fighting for 16 seeds. The whole thing is a little unfair though to the teams they play Thursday. For instance, LSU has been able to prep for Yale since Sunday afternoon. Maryland couldn’t really focus on their opponent until 10PM last night.

The NCAA tournament died for me when they added the play-in game(s). If you earned your berth, you should be playing on Thursdays or Fridays not have to play another game to get in.

Now I can actually watch a good game instead of watching Duke blow out Monmouth while I refresh on CBSSportline or wait for a little box in the right corner to change

Cause they have to let swac and every other league Champs in automatically who would be 30 seeds if they didn't have automatic bids.

It's very telling that women's hoops doesn't have the play in games... It exposes how much of a money grab and unnecessary the men's play in games are

The formula is simple. Last 4 at large teams vs last 4 AQ teams. Seeding be damned. Which is why you have 2 16 games and 2 11 games. Also have 2 play in games in the same regional bracket and one regional with no play in game.

The tournament as a concept isn't really about figuring out who the best team is anyways so that's why no one is hung up on stuff like this.

I liked it when they called it the play in games myself. It is what it really is.

The women don't have enough good teams to need a play-in game.
