Maybe it's the abundance of Bravetards here but I really don't see how people here keep selling the Phillies short. They're clearly the best team in baseball even with an inept offense. If the bats continue to come around and Howard can get hot, they will waltz to a World Series. And that's not me being a homer, anything short of a WS victory is a huge disappointment with this pitching staff.

Without a doubt. They may even add a true corner outfield bat in Beltran. If Oswalt comes back, then that is merely a bonus. Either way, they are the cream of the crop and the odds-on favorite.

Good game in Boston tonight - I could see KC taking this one.

I love seeing pitchers' duels in Fenway. It's kind of like like seeing a "hot girls" contest in south Mississippi.

I think Boston wins it all this season. I expected it preseason, and the way this team has played through all the injuries reassures my thoughts. Ellsbury is playing great this year too. I don't understand your concern, NHTiger. Stay calm, my friend.

I'd love to see Milwaukee do some damage in the postseason.

Milwaukee would be unhinged for games 1 and 2 of the World Series. I would think you could get a contact drunk from watching their home games on TV.

I also think Milwaukee would be very likely to have a "fans rushing the field" incident if they won the World Series at home.

Speaking of Milwaukee Greinke has had some of the worst luck this year. His 4.82 ERA doesn't come close to telling the truth.

Their defense is getting ragged on like crazy. Somebody had a money quote (I think it was on Simmons' podcast) that you could just as soon put 2 wooden stakes in the ground on the left side of their defense and if the ball hits the stakes you're out.

I've watched at least 15 Brewers games this year and I've yet to remember Bettencourt or McGahee commit an error. (The last 4 or 5 I've watched VERY closely b/c I became aware of their "horrible defense" reputation).

I have seen Brauny commit a couple. But I guess the numbers don't lie and it's just a coincidence that I've seen them play well.

Hell of a game here BTW - 1-1 going to the bottom of the 8th.

Love close and late games at Fenway. What other team would be hosting the fricking Royals at midnight on a Monday night after a 2 hour rain delay and have a raucous atmosphere?

Hmmm, best record in baseball and dismantled the BoSox and handling the Braves thus far?

Phillies are by far the best team in baseball. Have a nice day.

You were the best team last year and got punked in your own house repeatedly by the soft-hitting Giants.

Hope this year is different for your sake. I think a Milwaukee or Boston is as tough a matchup for you as SF was last year. I agree with you PHI is best on paper but losing to SF last season was weak.

We just got outpitched by the Giants, frustrating series since each game was close. Plus, no names had the series of their life. Aubrey Huff? Cody Ross?

Milwaukee doesn't scare me one bit, they won't have home field advantage and they're like 15 games under .500 on the road. San Fran is the one to look out for, they can pitch. ATL too.

Is Adrian Gonzales drunk tonight?

ETA: right on cue. He looked atrocious until that swing though.

He had a .900 OPS twice and ~.800 OPS twice while providing fantastic defense during his stay for the Red Sox. JD Drew's game has never been about averages, its on base percentage and slugging. 5 and 4.1 WAR, what a bum

Talk about an overrated stat. What do I give a shite if a guy that I have in the middle of my line gets on base. I want him driving in runs. You really think that OPS is a more important stat than RBI's for guy hitting in the 4, 5 or 6 spot in the lineup? He is hardly a "fantastic" outfielder averaging 5 assists a year and not enough speed to take hits away.....and ZERO Gold Gloves to show for it. And don't even get me started on the irrelevance of his owning a world Series ring that he earned with 11 HR's and 64 RBI's in 552 plate appearances.

If you really value players based on Gold Gloves and how many RBIs he gets, I don't know what to tell you. Fwiw, the goal in baseball as a hitter is to not cause an out. Is he supposed to swing at bad pitches in an attempt to drive the runner home? No, you take as many pitches as you can, looking for one that you can drive (and his slugging has always been pretty high, but I guess thats a shitty stat too). If you really think OPS is a bad stat, I'm just going to leave it alone.

Sox are interested in Bedard.

Do it, Epstein. Another starter that can make numerous trips to the DL.

I guess the theory is, while one is on the DL, another can be great

Seriously though, anything that gets Timmy outta the rotation is good enough for me. I want to put Aceves back in it.
