His pitching moves, esp in postseason, are just horrible.

Sometimes it’s obvious at the time he makes it, but they’re almost always bad after the fact. LOL

So I am extremely biased when it comes to Dave Roberts and I am hesitant to even criticize him because of The Game Four Stolen Base, and he is forever a member of The Twenty-Five, but my understanding is that the LAD front office does do a lot of directing.

That being said, my impression is that he is seriously a chemistry guy and a guy that can hold a team together, and I would take the way this team pulled itself off of the mat this year as at least some evidence that he has made a difference out there.

But, I'm a complete outsider - I watch almost no NL ball through a season because I watch the Sox every night, so that analysis is largely from what I have read from media sources.

Everything is predetermined, scripted, numbers based, etc. they are the most analytics driven team in sports.

It’s really the only explanation for some of the head scratching moves they make sometimes.

Yeah, I’m only basing my comments off of the past two postseasons

And I don’t think it’s debatable outside of who is actually making those pitching moves

Well, I for one, agree, and appreciate those moves last year. LOL

All joking aside, the timing of the Dodgers moves in last year’s WS cost them a WS win

no. the players cost them the world series. the moves didnt because the moves were the exact same moves the dodgers made in winning 104 games and damn near sweeping through the NL playoffs. its not daves fault that kenley threw the worst pitch of his life to marwin gonzalez in game 2. its not daves fault that darvish was tipping pitches in game 3 and he had to burn his bullpen that night. its not daves fault that kershaw vomited all over himself in game 5

the players make the plays, the manager doesnt. all he can do is put the players in the best situations to succeed. which he does do by and large. people are just upset because he actually respects the numbers and uses them when making his decisions so they looooooooooooove it when it doesnt work out in any single instance but completely ignore the fact that they work out far more than they dont

you can say he doesnt have as much of a feel for the game. i wont argue against that cause i dont know. but i would much rather have a manager like him than someone like a showalter who just "knows the game in his gut" and can just "feel" it. i despised don mattingly for a bunch of things that dave gets and the criticism he receives is just so beyond unfair that its laughable

You touched on a few, but I’ll mention a couple also.

You pull your starter and run through your pen in Game 2, leaving Fields and BMac. That’s a guaranteed loss that sets you up for eventual disaster.

You end up using Morrow in EVERY game, when his velo is obviously down, and let him give up 4 hits in 5 batters with 2 HRs. Roberts even said he wasn’t likely available. LOL

you have a lead with kenley jansen in the bullpen, you dont care about the 10th and 11th inning because you are doing everything you can to get to the 8th with the lead. and then you have the day off the next day. and it worked until kenley didnt

because he had to use him. the entire bullpen was tired because they threw 7 innings two nights before. which only happened because darvish couldnt get through the second inning. once again, if you want to start blaming anyone for that you need to look at the players first. outside of game 5 which was an impossible situation for everyone involved, he put them all in great situations to win

Your pitching moves didn’t start with Jansen in Game 2

I vividly remember celebrating your starter’s exit, and he was demonstrably agitated upon his removal.

and then you should also vividly remember that move did what it was supposed to do and we got to kenley with the lead in the 8th inning

And the rest is history

Look back on it as you will, but for your team’s sake, hopefully they learned more than you did.

On a positive note, I think Cora has opened himself up for similar criticism, but he has the bats to get away with it.

Goes without saying Dodgers need to capitalize on the advatages they have tonight, pitching wise.

Hit HRs instead of acting like it on singles.

I really don’t understand the concept of Jansen trying to get six outs. Why not use Baez in the 8th and Jansen in the 9th?

I get Dave’s Roberts role is to do what he is told, and keep morale up. But damn sometimes you wish DR would push back

Especially considering Jansen is no longer overpowering and he throws one of the heaviest and straightest fastballs in the league. Baez throws a ball that moves all over the place

Just insane that they live by the numbers so much and ignore the obvious

Analytics and numbers make sense over a 162 game season, but once you get to the playoffs, and especially the World Series, you gotta deviate a little bit and go with the hot hand.

kenley literally just got 4 outs without any problems and his velo and movement have been great this whole October and was facing the bottom half of the lineup.
