Tampa isn’t a terrible baseball city because the Devil Rays aren’t even in Tampa, they are in a terrible stadium in a terrible location in another city that is convenient for no one.

This owner is a POS
Tampa just needs a new stadium. They have a great fanbase and would definitely support the team

The plan should be axed and the team should be moved or just flat eliminated.

If a city can’t support a full regular season then that city should have a team.

I’d rather they jus remove to Montreal full time. They actually supported a team when they had one.

For Tampa, that means moving to Ybor City.

Is there place for a stadium in Ybor?

Nashville has had an NFL team that has been more or less decent since 1999 and can only come close to selling out their stadium when they are on top of the league, which they are now. And that's only eight games.

It would be cooler if the ownership group wasn't ok with keeping fans in the worst stadium in the Big 4 professional sports (or at least cared to work with the city on material renovations) in a part of the Bay Area that's a tremendous pain in the arse to get to during game commuting time. It would also help if they weren't near or at the bottom in payroll and could pull in more stars to be consistently competitive instead of having to rely on Kevin Cash's brilliance. It's weird but it's almost like improving those elements instead of being dirt cheap would likely lead to more consistent attendance.

Here are the Expos' attendance rankings for the 7 seasons before they moved.

If the Rays don't deserve to be Tampa, they sure as hell don't deserve to be in Montreal.

Because they had a stadium worse than the Trop. When Olympic Stadium was relatively new they led the league in attendance.

They supported a team so well that MLB had to take it over and move it to DC.

If the Devil Rays move, it should be to Charlotte, Nashville, or Vegas. Charlotte makes the most logistical sense because they can upgrade their stadium and they don’t need to shuffle the divisions.

This makes sense. That would be a great location.

It wouldn't surprise me if split-teams are a thing in the future. Yes, you have double stadium costs. But you also have 2 TV deals instead of 1, 2 fan-bases instead of 1, 2 markets instead of 1.
And it's that lucrative local TV deal that sets the Yankees apart.

Montreal supported the Expos for years. The 1994 strike pissed people off because when the season ended, the Expos had the best record in baseball.

When it finally ended in ‘95, they sold off a bunch of players, and every time players were good enough to get paid, they traded them or let them go. Throw in that Olympic Stadium had fallen apart and the split seasons in Puerto Rico and there you go.

I’m not convinced returning MLB to Montreal is a good idea. They would need a deep-pockets owner and a new stadium just for ante. Letting a guy like Sternberg move there seems like a repeat of history.

I could see a team like the Rays playing 3 or 4 series in another home location like a Montreal or Charlotte to help gain fan popularity, but not half the season.
