it is quite possible ESPN or Ray Rice is about to torch him.
I'm hoping so badly that Ray Rice starts talking blows this whole thing up on the Ravens and the NFL.

who is actually buying that the NFL is the victim of a witch hunt orchestrated by the all too sly and sinisterly intelligent ray rice.

We will get our house in order first

Roger Goodell was talking, but the words weren't his alone. "That speech was all Frank," says an associate of pollster Frank Luntz, lord of the dark arts of political messaging, who frequently works with Goodell and the NFL. "As soon as I heard Goodell's intro, I was laughing."

The part that got him giggling was the line "We will get our house in order first." The NFL commissioner used that same phrase minutes later, in response to a question from a New York Post reporter about whether he would resign.

"That's textbook stuff that Frank uses all the time," says the source.

Why, yes it is: "Getting our house in order" shows up as No. 4 on Luntz's list of nine "Phrases that prioritize" from his book, Win: The Key Principles to Take Your Business from Ordinary to Extraordinary.

they had to pay someone to write this crap?

quote:

As it happened, Luntz himself was watching the press conference, in his capacity as a Fox Sports 1 talking head (he moonlights as a Fox News commentator and analyst). Not long after the commissioner left the podium, Luntz gave his review.

Between Frank Luntz and Lanny Davis, it seems like the NFL is determined to work with as many truly awful, vile, horrible people as possible. What's next? Are they going to consult with Charles Manson?

so you're choosing to believe the owner with an agenda to cover his arse and has been shady throughout over the guy who wrote this article who has won multiple pulitzer prize awards?

No. I'm choosing to believe the Ravens head of security and the Ravens head football coach who directly contradicted something attributed to them from an "unnamed source".

They put their reputations and careers on the line to publicly dispute allegations made by someone who won't identify themselves.

I guess you could say they were both blatantly lying at their owners instruction, and I couldn't even disprove that. But that sure is alot of risk to take considering how this story is developing. And agreeing to a lie like that (and getting caught) would have a much more lasting impact on their careers then refusing their owners directive to lie in said statement.

Then I ask myself...would OTL run with something that slightly fudges the truth in order to accomplish their goal? And again, I'm more inclined to believe Harbaugh and Sanders.

ETA: And I have no agenda here. Don't care if Rog stays or goes. I'm not even saying the Ravens owner isn't lying about certain things, but the two points of the story attributed to Sanders and Harbaugh...I'm not buying it.

ETA2: And John Harbaugh could get another coaching job anywhere. WHY would he willfully, and blatantly lie simply to protect his owner? Are you that committed to your job?

you think making the NFL look bad accomplishes a goal for them? Friday's report was certainly not in ESPN's best self interests which is a fact that lends further credibility to the report. ESPN doesn't exist without the NFL...period.

and there is no way ESPN runs with that unless it was vetted thoroughly. They're not damaging their most profitable relationship to get some extra viewers for cold pizza

Yes. And it's not about "making the NFL look bad". If you're a journalist, as Bob Ley is, your goal is to break stories before your peers. And OTL is the only medium on ESPN that is considered investigative journalism. Sportcenter, cold pizza, etc... does enough jock riding for the NFL. It's Bob Ley's job to report.

You don't think OTL would have made the NCAA "look bad" if they had the opportunity, whom they have a similar relationship with? It wasn't for lack of effort. Y! was just kicking their arse. OTL's job is to investigate and report.

They (thought) they had something, so of course they are going to run it. I'm not even saying other parts of the story aren't factual. I'm just not buying that Bischotti gathered all his people in a room and planned out an elaborate lie so they were all on the same page, which is what would have been neccessary based on the statement from Harbaugh and Sanders today.

Is that what you think happend? bischotti wrote out a statement and demanded his employees sign onto it? You think Harbaugh would jut be complicit in that?

The same reporter involved here also ran with a story accusing Mickey Loomis of wiretapping the Superdome. A story that was completely discredited 48 hours later but further incriminated the Saints in the court of public opinion at the height of Bountygate.

ESPN has never retracted the story or apologized for their error.

It's unequivocally in their best interests not to run that piece

Moreover, Steve Bisciotti's own press conference was full of inconsistencies

For instance. At the beginning he said 2 games is what was expected then later said he was expecting 4-6. He further went on and blamed it all on ray rice, a man who he has admitted did not mischaracterize the events in the elevator. Now he said he had no clue what was on the tape until he saw it

Sorry, you've been had by some pretty amateur liars

Got it. Entirety of Ravens staff lied.

Unnamed source and journalists who has been proved wrong in the past gave the whole truth.

Your powers of deduction are amazing, and you are most certainly not biased on this matter at all.

Did you enjoy watching the games again this weekend? And just to confirm...John Harbaugh = Public liar, right?

How? Who's firing them from the Ravens? Not the boss they're covering for.

No...Threaten to fire them for not lying for him. Did they lie under threat of termination?

I find that more unlikely then them just telling the truth. Why risk your reputation?

Any why would the owner make that threat?

The first thing any fired party would do is go to ESPN and sing that they got fired for not covering their owners arse. Seems like a terrible way to cover things up

You are the one who is believing a huge multi-million dollar corporation whose self interest is being protected by lying and cover up. You must live in a really cool shelter.

Agreed. So why would John harbaugh willingly release a blatant lie simply to cover his owner? Why risk his entire career for that? I may be naive, but no one has answered that question for me.

Him lying is a much bigger risk then telling the truth. So why do it? To protect the owner you just said couldn't fire him?

Dude just said he didn't suggest Rice to be cut after the first tape, which in itself would be an unprecedented move considering how many domestic violence offenders they're are in the nfl. Why would he lie about that, as the unnamed source is saying he is.

I particularly love the part where bisciottie's defense was

"I'd i ever asked roger for pelreferential treatment it wouldn't show up in a report"

The old "I lie much better than this" defense
