One of the best posters on TD.
Gino Torretta was total garbage and the worst Miami QB in that period. He had players around him but he wasn't worth a shite. Miami would have beaten BYU with Jay Barker.
That BAMA team had some defense though. If I recall it was Curry/Copeland/London/Odon/Johnson/Shade/Langham ??
The Bama offense was 3 yards and a cloud of dust but they played discipline and Miami was not prepared for the hard nose football game they got that night

George Teague too. The Bookends in Curry and Copeland. Yeah that D was legendary. And Lassic was a workhorse running the ball. Barker was something like 3/8 for 11 yards in the game. Find me a worse statline for a Natty winning QB. And they ran the "best team ever" out of the stadium.

I didn't even include '92 and it's the greatest Natty upset of all time.
Not quite. Miami was -8. FSU was -11 in the 01 Orange against Oklahoma.
I take that back. Miami was -11.5 against Ohio State in the 03 Fiesta.

But using that logic y'all had the worse Sugar Bowl loss of all time.
And that same logic means Florida has the biggest title game upset since we beat TOSU by 27 and they were favored by 7.

That OU Florida State game was in a similar vein though. OU was preseason 20ish, one of the lower ranked preseason teams to ever win it all and had some close games. It featured the best use of the intentional safety ever. So weird that the only Natty in the Stoops era was a very low scoring defensive [pretty much a] shutout

All I know is Lee Corso was trashing Bama as undeserving like he never has anyone since. And all American track star/WR Lamar Jackson and crew showed up in Army fatigues and sunglasses mocking Bama for playing a zone defense. "Real men play man." Then they just got fricking abused. It was glorious.
Like I said I was really too young to remember, but I when was a teenager I ordered VHS's from ebay and had all the programs and tickets and posters from that year. This was late 90s early 2000s, I couldn't really see us ever being National Champs again. I was obsessed with '92.

1. Texas-USC 2005: nothing is that close to me. It was two undefeated teams. It was 2 Heisman winners. It was a USC team featured in comparisons for the greatest of all time. It was Hollywood v Texas Tough. It was one of CFB’s greatest QBs leading one of the greatest comebacks.
2. Clemson-Bama 16: one of the cases where the sequel was better than the original. Goliath is finally toppled. The understudy beating the proven champion.
3. OSU-Miami 02: the ultimate underdog story. A championship where defense was at the forefront. A Miami team loaded with talent and confidence losing to a reborn Ohio State program that had to pull of amazing plays just to get there.
4. Bama-Clemson 2015
5. Bama-Georgia 2017

USC/Texas had the defending national champion playing the defending Rose Bowl champion in the Rose Bowl for the national championship.
34 and 20 game winning streaks respectively.
#1 and #2 the ENTIRE year.
Only two unbeatens.
50ppg offenses.
Top 3 Heisman finalists plus a ridiculous talent on both sides of the ball for both teams.
Both team with marquee OOC road wins (@ND, @OSU), those games themselves being a lot of fun.
Both teams completely smoking their final opponents to end any shred of doubt as to who the best two teams were.
I haven't even touched on the game itself, which was wild, back-and-forth, and featured a ton of drama and some incredible performances from the marquee players. Leinart went for 360-plus, LenDale had 3 TDs, Bush was in check but had a stupidly fun TD of his own, and of course, VY just went frickin ham.
Best buildup, best game, best intangibles (Pasadena with Jackson on the call). Hands down #1.
Everyone who disagrees should probably be sterilized.

USC vs Texas is the college football equivalent of that Duke vs. Kentucky basketball game in the tournament, only that was just the elite 8.
Just one of those legendary, essentially perfect games and moments in sports where all the stars aligned.
I'm not a Texas or USC fan and it's clear that's the best national championship game ever played and given the circumstances will almost certainly stay that way forever.
Since 1998 the national championship game has actually been fairly 'meh' outside of a few games. The last 3 years have been 3 of the best but they still don't come close to USC/Texas.

USC did some really dumb shite and choked pretty hard. I don't want to diminish Vince Young who was amazing, but let's not overlook that
That's why I said both teams played to their potential almost.
That's why I said, it should have been 21-0 after the 1st quarter.
That is where USC lost the game...they were smoking...made a comeback in the 2nd half and ran the ball with LenDale White down Texas' throat but Texas should have never led at halftime...the Bush lateral, VY knee down, Leinart's retarded interception in the endzone, etc.
People forget that it looked like USC was running away with the game early...Texas held, USC made some dumb mistakes...USC had a fantastic 3rd quarter with White and VY had an amazing 4th quarter. It was a back and forth game...USC even had an opportunity to intercept VY on the final drive and instead just batted the ball down.
But regardless...the star power was amazing and it was truly an event to watch based on the circumstances. It was a I have to watch this affair.

All they’ve done for decades. Even when they win, they cheat and get it erased. Their best team? Loses to Oregon St in 08 lmao. Barkley comes back and AP has them at what, #1? They finished losing like 5 of their last 6 games.

Bama Clemson I was similar. A juggernaut was getting Vince Young'd. Saban called the onside kick. Pete Carroll called the same play 4 times in a row including on 4th down with the lead with 2 minutes left. That was the difference
The eternal derp that people remember is that Bush wasn't even on the field as a decoy to go in slot or whatever to spread out the defense.
Texas even admitted they sold out to stop White and a run and weren't even prepared for a quick pass.
The Heisman trophy winner wasn't even on the field of USC's biggest play of the season.
Unconscionable.

Those teams were no where near as big heading into the game.

I actually think the second bama/Clemson game was boring through the majority of it. Vama felt in control until the very end for me.
