That's objectively better/more compelling theater than Texas/USC.
Nah.
The first half was 13-0 UGA. The second half was 20-7 Alabama. That's not compelling in the slightest.

No mention of Alabama/Penn State in the Sugar Bowl yet.

2009 Bama-Texas in Pasadena
2011 Bama-LSU in New Orleans
2012 Bama-Notre Dame in Miami
2015 Bama-Clemson in Arizona
2017 Bama-UGA in Atlanta
No particular order. They were all so amazing in different ways. I attended them all and haven't been to any others so I might be a little biased

No Sugar Bowl against Penn State?

Miami OSU was great. and had intriguing storylines. Miami had a 34 game win streak and was working on a 2nd national title in as many years. OSU had a dream season with a bunch of dramatic wins and was looking to break a long drought without a national title.

That was 6 years before I was born
I didn't even include '92 and it's the greatest Natty upset of all time. I have vague memories of it as a 6 year old but didn't really understand it

It was 7-0 USC after the 1st quarter ( should have been 21-0)
16-10 Texas at halftime.
24-23 USC after the 3rd quarter.
41- 38 end.
USC scored 28 points by in the 2nd half.
Texas scored 25.
And you had two Heisman winners on the field plus the Heisman runner-up.
You will never another game like it, 34 game win streak, Texas 21 game win streak, Rose Bowl, Keith Jackson.
It was the biggest event I've ever seen in CFB.

Dont think well ever see anything as majestic as SC / Texas 05 ever again.

Yeah, the ambiance around the game had a lot of intrigue. Ohio State was a 10 point underdog and Miami was "the best team of all time."
Rewatching the game you need the backstories to get the full effect. It was a competitive game, but more defensive. UT/USC was a damn good ball game and had similar storylines.

Watching every OSU game that year adds to the "ambiance" ... Claretts breakout performance against WaZzu, Holy Buckeye against Purdue, close calls against Illinois, Michigan, Penn State, Wisky. I dunno if its nostalgia but 2002 OSU was "magical" even though OSU has fielded better/talented teams since then.

USC did some really dumb shite and choked pretty hard. I don't want to diminish Vince Young who was amazing, but let's not overlook that

This is shite w/o 1984 Miami v Nebraska
ETA; I saw the Sugar Bowls in the 70's and some were great for the National Championship, but I don't think any game topped this one. Miami was a HEAVY underdog against what was perceived to be one of the greatest teams of all time. While USC v Texas was a great one, Texas did have the best player in the game.
it took 'balls' for Osbourne to go for the win when he only had to kick the point for the NC.

Nothing even remotely approaches USC/Texas 2005. The game was incredible between two all time great teams littered with CFB legends. It was the perfect storm for an epic NC that I doubt will ever be topped.
Ohio State/Miami was very good as well. I did enjoy watching Watson’s guts in leading Clemson to beat Bama a couple years ago too.

Oh so we just gonna pretend that that badass Alabama team getting completely stonewalled by underdog UGA wasn't compelling? We just gonna ignore that a true fish leading a comeback to get it to OT completing 4th down passes for touchdowns is compelling? We just gonna act like they didn't play OT at all? We gonna front like a walk off TD in OT for the title by that same fish on 2nd and 26 isn't compelling in the slightest?
Chile. Please

That wasn't even the first time a GOAT tier Miami team got beat as huge favorites in the Natty to a team that wears red that 'didn't belong' with a game manager QB that had a bunch of ugly close defensive wins that year. It happened 10 years earlier

Getting a lot of downvotes for my ranking but no one wants to give their own?
I'm only doing from 1998 (BCS) and onwards
1. 2005 - Texas vs USC
I think everyone agrees on that one.
2. 2015 - Alabama vs Clemson
Crazy shootout, surprise onside kicks, all that jazz, very exciting game for 4 quarters and the 4th quarter was crazy.
3. 2016 - Alabama vs Clemson
The 4th quarter and the prior year make this one a classic too. It's also not every year the game ends on the last play.
4. 2017 - Alabama vs. Georgia
I guess the game DOES end ont he last play every year. The Tua story and the ending make up for the somewhat boring first half to put this at 4.
5. 2013 - Auburn vs. Florida State
A big comeback, fake punts, kickoff returns, last second score, just a solid exciting game top to bottom.

It took a two quarter derp from UGA for last year to happen. Then Alabama missed a fricking 36 yard FG at the end of regulation to even go to OT.
That game was enjoyable because every roots against Alabama to lose.
2006 is enjoyable as an unbiased observer. That game was pure insanity from start to finish. Entertainment overload.

Yeah, Alabama Clemson II was better than 2018 as well.

Bama Clemson I was similar. A juggernaut was getting Vince Young'd. Saban called the onside kick. Pete Carroll called the same play 4 times in a row including on 4th down with the lead with 2 minutes left. That was the difference
