Because when he was just 22, he put up a 9.5 WAR season with a .330/.460/.649 slash line.
I'm in the middle. I do think he deserves to be called of the best.

But I don't think you can be the best, or top 3 or top 5 having only done it 1 time.

Sustain it first, then you can be crowned IMO.

This year was a huge step back no doubt, but Harper also put up 4+ WAR seasons at age 19 and 20. That is extremely impressive.

People don't seem to realize how young he is. He is nearly a year younger than Kris Bryant. While Bryant was still in college, Harper was putting up 4 WAR seasons.

History also has quite a bit of players that peaked early, only to have injuries or the inability to consistently adapt to new approaches derail their career. Right now I still have him top 5 at the lowest, but I can understand people who are cautious after this year.

He was healthy last year and first part of this year. And it was clear he was one of the 2 best players in the game. Trout is the only player that has had a season remotely close to that

He looked like garbage this year. He started out red hot the first couple of weeks, but then went in to the dumpster. I just am not buying the guy.

It was a disappointing year and he wasn’t near a top 10 player this year, but garbage is way strong. He still went 20-20 with a .373 OBP and 3.5 WAR. He’s not even 24 yet and he was likely playing injured most of the year.

You mean like he does pretty much every time he steps on the field? Rocco Baldelli could have been great too.

Im not the one calling a guy who is rarely on the field a top 3 talent.

He was on the field most of this year. Just played hurt.

It's clear you dont follow baseball. The guy just had the greatest age 22 season since Ted Williams in 1941, and you are "sold". L O frickin L
