It's a shame to see Albert leave St. Louis, but it would be hard as a Cards fan to rationalize that kind of contract. I thought the Musial factor would keep Pujols in a Cards uni. Can't blame the guy for taking the money. I still don't see the Cardinals being major players in free agency. They don't have any glaring needs (this year) that can be addressed with the guys that are out there without greatly overpaying.

I just don't get why you'd want that kind of investment in the last 3-5 years of the contract. If he keeps up production, you look like a genius. If not, you look like an idiot dropping $25m.

I've heard they don't want to spend the $$$$$

Trumbo came up as a third baseman...don't be shocked to see him go back there. Alberto Callaspo might be out of a job.

I'm kinda shocked at this. If the Angels get CJ Wilson too, good god...

They have no issues adding payroll... but extending Hamilton and Cruz has priority.

Garza is a name the Rangers have been linked to... and I'm sure JD has a few tricks up his sleeve.

With those jaw dropping contracts, there's always some deferred money. I agree... why would anyone want to pay all that money to a declining vet at the end of their career. That's just what it takes to land a superstar these days if you don't lock them up during their arb. years.

Just be happy your team has the flexibility to improve. There are plenty of ways to win without Pujols. The Angels fricked themselves from years 5-10.

AL was the only hope of any team getting good value out of the 10-year-deal, since he can play some DH once he winds down.

Of course, the amount of money he will make the franchise purely because of asses in seats, can't be calculated.

Not really, so I don't get it.

I guess he will be a big hit in the Latino community there, but I always figured most of the Latino community were Dodger fans.

Merchandising maybe. They draw 40K+ every game. Would have been a much bigger boost in Miami.

Yu Darvish posting will be coming up soon. The Rangers are expected to be big bidders for his services.

Yu Darvish/Prince Fielder! Make it happen JD.

Agreed. That's why I thought Miami might go nuts trying to sign him, because of the instant draw he can bring to a team that has zero fans.
