I don't agree with the black angle here. But there is an issue with an organization using legal adults to make millions off their labor then use laws to keep all the profit. The NCAA and schools should have got ahead of this decades ago.

It’s completely anti-American and socialist.

This board won’t admit it and fights it because they’re scared it will drastically alter a sport they’re passionate about as fans, and they simply don’t want it. The arguments are purely emotional and from a fans point of view, not what is actually the right thing to do and in line with our supposed capitalistic ideologies of the market

Decades ago the scholarships were enough for everyone to be happy

And the revenue generated wasn't nearly what it is today.

It's funny seeing this on the same day as the US Soccer stuff. I guess sometimes it's fair for one team to subsidize another and sometimes it isn't.

Clearly the gender and race of those involved has NOTHING to do with it.

If they kill the golden goose, then there is no money for Title IX to prop up the non-money sports.

Programs like USC would be forced to drop football because the state of California made it too ornerous to continue doing so.

The socialists want revenue they’re contractually not entitled to… they chose to play college football and if they didn’t other student athletes gladly would have

And one more thing… big time college football existed before black people were able to play it. It’s disingenuous for them to act like they made it a big deal when Rockne and Red Grange did

In just one example, UCLA athletics ran a $21.7M deficit in 2020. How on earth could they afford to give away 50% of their revenue when they have a negative profit margin?

If its the WNBA or Women's Soccer its "they don't make enough money to survive anyway, who cares about them" on this board.

California, albeit not intentionally, goes whole hog with it and basically says if you make the school money you will earn money yourself and people are complaining

We might not get any recruits anymore but at least we will be good at softball

It’s more nuanced than “don’t change the game pawwwl!”

The further this goes the quicker the whole system comes crashing down and we’re back in the era of early 20th century intramural sports, which I think is the real endgame here. Not sure how many athletes want that tbh

There would have to be some kind of provision where programs in a deficit wouldn't have to pay it. Or maybe there won't, its California.

The future NFL guys don't care ultimately. For the vast majority of players their college career will be one of if not the best experience of their lives and it will get neutered.

This bill has no co-sponsors. Even with California's crazy BS, this will die in appropriations. All of this is essentially just outrage click-bait.

Good point, but I don't think they (or any other school) ever have a profit margin over 50%. That is what it would require to give away 50% of revenue and still balance the books.

True

Like I mentioned, not saying I agree with the bill, but I think a lot of these programs are just throwing out money left and right. Can they get down to cutting expenses 50%? I don't know, but they can cut millions upon millions I'm sure if it were necessary.
