Guys that were crazy hyped as the next big thing and actually lived up to that hype, very hard to do IMO

Best recent examples
Tiger Woods
Lebron James
Bryce Harper

Guys who have a chance still
Andrew Luck
Rory McIlroy

Bryce Harper is way more hype than reality. Pass.

He’s a good example, if he is not a perennial all-star, franchise player with a legit HoF bid he won’t have lived up to the hype, y’all about tough

These might be the two best of all time in this category.

Further back, Shaq had a lot of hype and completely delivered on it.

he way exceeded his hype, I don’t think he was universally regarded as a generational type of guy. Hell he wasn’t even the top pick

I think he's gonna be really good, but let's have him play a few NBA games before we say he's delivered on the hype.

Nothing to do with liking him or not, I just don’t think he’s even close to being the best player in baseball. He’s hype and hasn’t quite lived up to that. If he matched the hype, it’s because he has Trouts numbers, which he’s not even close.

There’s guys like this every year. I don’t think you understood the point of this thread. Nobody is arguing how great MJ was, but he didn’t have as much hype as most of the other guys listed coming into the league.
Nobody expected him to be the best player in the league right away like with a Lebron

This. He's been pretty underwhelming. He's really overpaid.

I’m not a Lebron fan but It is honestly insane that he lived up to and probably exceeded his hype
