I've wondered what effect the Coaches & AP Polls have on the Harris voters over those 6 week

Marginally, Its not like waiting gives people different information about the season up to that point or that there won't be polls anyway. People make a big deal out of it for no reason. If you wait and Michigan loses to Ap St week 1 and gets killed by Oregon week 2 they won't be in the Oct Poll either way who cares if they started in the top 10.

The Harris voters just fall in line with what the other polls say. Even

they all have the same information, that's not gonna change no matter when you release a poll. You could wait until the end of December and Alabama and Texas would still be ranked ahead of Cincinnati, TCU and Boise.

The problem people have with preseason polls is the perception of bias, that teams that start higher have an advantage, though not as big as people think and its not nearly as big as the name advantage.

The better solution would be to eliminate the traditional "human" polls and just use computer polls.

This.

And a lot of other voters will probably keep their own polls from the beginning, as well.

So if they did away with official preseason polls and didn't release actual polls until say week 5, would any of you not watch games just because the teams don't have rankings beside their names?

I'd still watch the games, but it wouldn't matter as far as the BCS is concerned.

Personally, I think it would give more meaning to every game. No team would start out with an advantage.

i'd like to see rankings based on what you've done and not who you are...

The final polls are based on what you did, if teams that were ranked at the top in the preseason remain there all season that only means the preseason poll was right about those teams.
Computer rankings are the only way to do away with name bias.

The big name teams always start out with an advantage and this has nothing to do with preseason polls.
