No apparently MLB wouldn't let them.

It's worth mentioning again: It'd be great if MLB could loosen its rules and allow the Pirates to dole out Stargell stars for the retros.

but as a kid fan of the Cards in the 70s it brings back painful flashbacks - they beat our arse in those things and variations like them for that whole decade

rule 23-A.1.2 - MLB must be managed by a bunch of old, stodgy nitwits who do not want to bring baseball into anything that resembles the 21st century.

But aren't the Pirates wearing uniforms from the 20th century?

That's my good mate Joe Block (former NO Hornets post game host) - we both moved from NOLA to Milwaukee at around the same time and he got a Wheaten terrier like Sir Winston after his wife fell in love with my little guy. And my dog.

I like him as part of the broadcast team.

The city is pretty excited about the '79 uniforms w/ a lot of pieces on stuff from that era. People love that team, and there's still a lot of stuff from it that's part of the modern Pirate era (like the "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" banner that gets trotted out at big games down the stretch).

They said during the broadcast today that they were still pursuing the "Stargell Stars" thing w/ MLB and hadn't given up.

Interesting note -- the Pirates wore that uniform in Game 7 of the '79 series @ Baltimore. They had a variety of uniform combinations that year (some featuring the yellow hat), but as Kent Tekulve told it on the broadcast today, they were adamant w/ MLB that they be allowed to wear the gold top black hat black pants combo for the final game -- sort of a home team uniform for a road game in Game 7. I can imagine MLB stepping in today in a way they didn't care back then.

Ok so

For those who still don't know, can someone explain?

It must not be a MLB trademark or something?
