I wouldn't say that but his legacy takes a huge hit because all he is is a Jordan derivative and everyone knows it.
And there is no Lakers dynasty without Shaq. They knew what they were getting from Orlando. Take the good with the bad, PJ has trashed both Kobe and Shaq at different times, you have to wonder what's his agenda. Is he writing another book?

The choice isn't between 'undisputed GOAT' and 'not HOF.' Everyone knows he's HOF, only a tiny minority of Lakers fans who never actually watched Jordan think Kobe is GOAT

Risking hijacking this thread but Red was winning all those championships at a time when the NBA had less than 12 teams. Meaning that the talent level of the other teams was a hell of a lot higher than a majority of the teams Jackson was competing against in his time as a HC. Too, Red was the only coach sitting on the bench, meaning that he did it all. But to the thread, if you had to pick one of the 3, MJ, Shaq, or Kobe, to start your team, who do you pick? Even as a huge Shaq fan, I'd take MJ, Shaq 2nd and Kobe 3rd.

Just watched the story on Real Sports about Larry Brown and SMU, he is possibly the greatest coach of the modern era. Phil Jackson is a front runner, could he go into a team that was losing and win? Could he have taken that Clippers team to a final. If anything I don't know if Jackson could win with just Kobe, which is where the Lakers will be since they are now hamstrung with his terrible contract.

Regardless...Kobe is done! PS- Kobe made Phil walk away from the game. Not Shaq...I guess I would say that if I was a dope head and screwing the Lakers owner.
I love the Lakers but I think you are correct. Kobe's best days are behind him. Steve Nash is done. Gasol isn't happy. Time to rebuild the Lakers. Kobe isn't going to be happy unless significant pieces are placed around him. Nash is probably gone after this season.
Kobe has no chance of winning another title without another superstar and some bench. Kobe likes to sulk and deflect blame onto other players anyway. The Lakers are done so why even come back this season ?

This might be the most painful thread to read in the history of the board and neither Gamecock nor PJ have arrived yet.

I would be shocked if he came back this year. He needs to be 100% for next year. I expect the Lakers to reload like a mother in the next 2 years.

Kobe = GOAT.
Not really, but the mamba is one of my favorite players ever due to his work ethic and toughness. Very much like Jordan to me.

I thought the statement was axiomatic. When you take everything that is Michael Jordan, copy it, and try to pass it off as your own, you don't really ever deserve to be in a "who's better" comparison. He's the GOAT copycat, but his legacy is the legacy of a copycat.
You can't just paint a Picasso and call yourself Picasso.
