you wouldn't instruct the person who informed you to call the cops and report what they told you they saw?

Looks like he agrees with most of us, on this side of the aisle. Paterno has some responsibility.

Wtf? We are saying that he has responsibility. The article even says that Joe may have the answers to all of those questions. That's been the whole point of our (my) argument...we simply don't know yet. But people here are acting like they know exactly what happened. LE used the perfect word here: reactionary.

Bottom line is after being told what was happening in his locker room, by his assistant coach and former player, he has to do more than just pass it up the line.

It was cowardly at best and put more children at risk.

if I see a 2 year old kid walking on a busy street near traffic by themself I can call the cops and let them know about it and keep on driving to my destination and I have met the minimum requirement.

...or I could get out help the child to safety and attempt to find the parents and make sure the kid doesn't get run over.

That's a great example, except that you didn't see the kid. You heard about it.

Everyone just wants answers and details. I have a feeling that a lot of them will come out and that they'll be pretty damning.

Absolutely. We agree on that. That's the whole point of my argument...we are wanting and waiting for answers. Yet without having those answers, people are making their judgments and having knee jerk reactions.

So my secretary runs in, upset, and tells me a two year old is in the street. I just call my supervisor and let him know? If the kid gets hurt, it is on him and the secretary now.

This doesn't make one damn bit of difference. You hear that someone raped a child the first move is to the cops. Let them work out the rest.

Sandusky is out on bail, right? I wouldn't be surprised if he kills himself soon.

If someone I knew gave me an eyewitness account of a rape, I'd be on the phone with the police.

I'd likely ask then why they didn't.

If I saw a wreck happen, I'd call the cops. If someone called me and told me a wreck happened, I wouldn't. And I'm not trying to mean that it's the sane thing as child molestation, but making the point that seeing something and hearing about something are completely different.

Paterno may have fulfilled his legal requirement to report suspected abuse by former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, state police Commissioner Frank Noonan said, “but somebody has to question about what I would consider the moral requirements for a human being that knows of sexual things that are taking place with a child.”

He added: “I think you have the moral responsibility, anyone. Not whether you’re a football coach or a university president or the guy sweeping the building. I think you have a moral responsibility to call us.”

What if you were a supervisor and an employee alerted you that a child was raped in your office? You wouldn't call the police?

a boy being anally raped in your locker room? I don't know man, the two dovetail pretty closely here.

I get that they're not exactly the same, but the outrage that comes from a normal person when hearing about it, should create a reaction similar to seeing it in person.

So if someone called you right now and said your best friend your whole life molested a child, you'd call the cops? I call bullshite completely on that.

That's what a colleague was telling me. Quite honestly, he may still be in denial.

you have to get the details right to make a comparison like that.

If he called me and said that my best friend my whole life raped a child in my downstairs bathroom, then first thing I would do would be talk to my friend and let him know that I was contacting the police to let them deal with it. Then I'd contact the police.

That analogy doesn't fit the facts.

If I was in charge of the office, I would. If not, I'd report it to my boss and expect them to.
