I would only understand cancelling the rest of the season if the players supported it. The players did nothing wrong. This isn't an NCAA violation. This isn't even a sports story, even though there is an obvious sporting component to it. Just because university leadership failed doesn't mean the players should be punished. They represent Penn St, not JoePa and not Sandusky (who most have likely never met).

Well said.

I think cancelling football would be punishment to the players who were oblivious to anything going on. For many of these young men it is their life long dream to play college football at Penn St, you can't deny them. And I really don't think stopping football is going to "clean" anything up. The people involved will be sorted out without having to punish the players.

On a personal level, I will hate penn state football, and what it became under the watch of joe paterno. I will look forward to watching them lose, and I cannot imagine how penn state people can think about football in these times.

I am not sure whether or not they should shut down the season, but if PSU wins out, they go to the first ever Big10 championship game right? What a nightmare for the Big 10 in that scenario.

Let the team play out the regular season, but no postseason for them. No championship game and no bowl. The administration should at least do that.

There will be cancellations of sponsorships on a level not seen since Tiger Woods IMO.

I fully expect this to happen, but Penn State is a huge school with an enormous fanbase and as long as there are people willing to consume Penn St football, other sponsors will step in. Sponsorships will take a big hit for sure, but it won't be severe enough to force the program to shut down.

My two cents....

Shut down, at least, until Sandusky is through the legal system.

Why would any of Penn State's opponents want to go and play there?

They need to cancel the rest of their season, fire everyone and rip out every building associated with the crimes that were committed.

Clean house of any ties to Paterno.

Find an interim coach outside of the system for the remaining games.

Assess the situation fully during the offseason and formulate a comprehensive plan to restore the university and football program's image.

if they're gonna clean house, hire all new people, and ensure the safety of visiting teams playing there, i see no reason for them not to play football. if that's what they look forward to, it will help them get through these times

Personally i think the crazy devotion to football is why this all happened in the first place.

Life sucks and then you die.

The adults who were supposed to be responsible for the players already have ruined their Senior Day week, put themselves above and before the team day after day and year after year, and tarnished the legacy and reputation of the school for which they play.

I say shut it down now.

How can you sit there as an LSU fan and say anything about the crazy fan base.

I see what you're saying, but there are a lot of schools that have a crazy devotion to football that wouldn't have let this happen. I think Penn State's crazy devotion to Paterno is the bigger problem. They didn't even have the guts to fire him when he refused to resign in '04. The power JoePa wielded over his "superiors" fostered a disgustingly negligent environment devoid of accountability.

We win games, call for Les Miles to be fired. We lose games, we call for Les Miles to be fired. Play Jordan Jefferson, Les Miles should be fired, play Jarret Lee, Les Miles should be fired.

If this type of crap were to happen at LSU, there would be a lot of fans doing the same bullshite. Anyone that disagrees is delusional.

I dont recall the LSU fan base supporting someone potentially involved in enabling any capital crimes and ruining the lives of children. If LSU were to ever be faced with such a situation I would expect them to act appropriately with their priorities in order.
