It would be much worse for them to actually play. After the de commitments, the transfers that will without question happen, the beat downs they take year in and year out, will do more damage to the program on the field than cancelling for 2 years.
No chance. It would be better to get their asses beaten then simply stop altogether. If they cancel, all the stuff you mentioned would still happen just, but it would just start 2 year down the road and continue for a longer period of time.

that's the choice, either they do or someone does it for them

Cancel the season immediately! This thing has to stop. The depth and scope of this mess goes much further then anybody could have imagined. Sports has never seen anything like this. In order for the program to ever move forward, they need to break away for a couple of seasons and return under a whole new era of football. Let the current players transfer, forfit the remaining games and do whats right Penn State!!

I would only understand cancelling the rest of the season if the players supported it. The players did nothing wrong. This isn't an NCAA violation. This isn't even a sports story, even though there is an obvious sporting component to it. Just because university leadership failed doesn't mean the players should be punished. They represent Penn St, not JoePa and not Sandusky (who most have likely never met).

Tear down the locker room? Tear out the showers? Expunge Paterno, Sandusky and other names from the plaques, trophies and other memorbalia?
Not my point.

I can't even process the full scope of it right, much less any realistic way of cleaning up any of it (except the firings, which need to continue in every direction), much less all of it?
They need to get a new staff in there pronto. Everyone must be fired and replaced with non Penn State people and that's everyone in the Athletic Department along with the President and his subordinates. Again, regime change at Penn State should start with canning all the coaches, canceling the season and hiring a new staff. (These coaches all knew about Sandkowsky) Start fresh by introducing a new coach in 2 weeks and try not to damage the program long term. That's what the BOTs should be working on ASAP.

Once TV Sponsors see the boycott of the games it will end real quick.

If you thought last night's riots were bad...

They'll have to continue football just to have the revenue to pay the victims and the additional lawsuits from every kid that has passed through the Second Mile program.
They're going to get sued by parents that are pissed because their kid was just put in danger by the university's inaction.

The players need to realize the scope of the situation and realize them playing 3 more football games in nothing compared to the situation. If they can't realize that then this is a sad place for anyone who cares for humans to be. The attitude coming out of Penn St is clearly a big reason to me how this was perpetuated and went unnoticed for so long.

im stunned at how deranged the cult of Pedofile Sanctuary University really is.
I hope this story never ends
These riots and that pic of him hugging this statue has sealed the pedofile sanctuary tag. it really was a sanctuary, and even being aware of the accusations, student still riot FOR him?
This will never be forgotten, nor even forgiven.

Who's boycotting games?

There will be a Federal investigation of this issue from top to bottom. If the investigation proves this conspiracy went very deep, I could see the NCAA allowing all of the players to transfer out without having to sit out a year. Then that would cripple the football program for a while anyway.

Life isnt fair and the players of Penn State need to understand that. Let them transfer without having to sit out a year. Thats fair enough!! This university HAS to pay the consequences for its selfish and criminal actions! Unfortunately palyers and fans will be caught in the middle but so be it! Casualties of war.
Posted on 11/10/11 at 5:09 pm to X
I don't think they'll do that. But it just depends how many people really know about what happened.

I agree the university needs to be punished. But as a state institution, the school can be punished by a suspension of state funding and the firing of all university leadership. Again, this is not a sports story. If a similar cover-up had occurred in an academic program on campus a decade ago, it wouldn't be fair to shut down the program and tell the students to transfer if they want to continue their studies.

I think pursuit of a degree and participation in sponsored athletics are a bit different, although I see your point.

I sure as shite do not intend to support them, I don't think I'll be alone. I don't need their brand of athletics

There will be cancellations of sponsorships on a level not seen since Tiger Woods IMO.

I've thought that if things are ugly Saturday with students rioting etc the BOT will really look bad for having let the game go on.
