The notion that Paterno could dictate the terms of his departure, and make it sound like he was being magnanimous and altruistic, is simply the last act of a man with and enormous ego and sense of entitlement.

If he were really wanted to be such a saint, he should have bowed out gracefully. Maybe could have saved the school from this national news spectacle of the students protesting in the streets

Dude shut the fuk up about he told someone....if you saw someone being raped at work you mean to tell me you are just going to tell your boss. GTFO...if so you need to re-evaluate your morals.

so basically, what's that, 2002-1989 that's what... 13 years, at least, that someone has known that this dude was touching little boys.

let's just be real. do you think for an honest moment paterno doesn't know every detail about every one of his assistants life?

it's sad, what people will do to harbor a winning football team. police and state officials don't question as hard or go through the motions, people turn the blind eye to the obvious

This is indeed a sad day when an american sports icon goes out in the most embarassing way possibele. I have never thought that he would go out this way. This whole thing is just spectacular and hard to watch. I respect what he has done for Penn State and college football in genreal and he is still is a legend. I hate that he is going out this way and this is one of the most amzing and surreal things I've ever seen.

With that said, I don't respect his actions this past week. If he had the sense in him, he would've resigned ASAP to help out his university. He should've realized that there is no shame in admitting he was wrong and should've done more. We would have had more respect for him if he took that course of action.

This was tearing the university apart and and the so called student riots is an example of why the BOT had to get things under control and rebuild their reputation and football program. Kind of like when President Ford pardoned President Nixon to prevent a cultural civil war and further emotional turmoil. If Joe Paterno had been allowed to coach until the end of the season, the media coverage would have been completely off the charts crazy and Penn State would be at war with itself. This circus of media coverage was just a small taste of what could have happened if they didn't fire him. The BOT saw the writing on the wall and made the right call. There was absoulutely nothing to be gained from letting him continue his coaching duties and letting this farce continue. As far as Joe Paterno is concerned, he needs to go on quietly into history. It's just a shame they had to do it for him instead of him wising up and be a real grown man and bite the proverbial bullet. Time to move on folks.

I wish Penn State all the best in the future.

Screw it I was going to post about the football players, but f it. This is a huge deal and it is beyond football. I don't know how those players will handle it, or the coaching staff.

With this Penn State honor lives on.

I can honestly say that I never would have guessed that I'd be sitting here watching this happen. The board did what it needed to and should have done to preserve the schools image. I shouldn't have to suffer because of the sick and twisted actions of a few people.

But again as I've said many times these last few days, I hope people dont forget that this isn't about football, its about these kids and their families. This should have never been allowed to happen.

According to the GP report, the mother of one of the victims called the police in 1989, not the admin.

I don't give a shite about the local cops covering up some minor things that football players do like MIPs or having a bag of weed.

This kind of stuff is just pure insanity though. This is bigger than football. The lives of a bunch of little kids are not worth less than a fricking football program.

To you. I appreciate reading your reactions and your perspective on this. You have been very rational and honest.

I hear what you are saying, but that is a beginning to cover up for bigger issues such as this. It is a growth like cancer. We all can only hope none of our schools closets harbor such darkness.

You are not paying attention. All blame hasn't been placed on him, and he is getting off lightly it appears. Others are out as well, some under investigation.
well if that is going to be a general reaction, then it appears this sitation cant be helped. i just wish one thing, that it couldve been dealt with sooner(instead of coming out years later)

also, to the numerous people esponding with venom toward me, ill respond with one with this: y our persistant refusal to put any logic into your attacks just shows how stupid y ou are as an individual. some people, like me, understand rational dialogue after all.
