Don't know. Seems like it may be a good time for someone young to step in and rebuild the program. Expectations will be low for a while.

What an ignominious end to Paterno's career. Deserved nevertheless.

Paterno of all people, this whole story is just insane and disgusting.

its amazing people cannot see the true issue here, boys were raped, JoePa knew and allowed it to continue another 6 years, in my mind he is just as responsible he was THE enabler.

I'm with you there. This does surprise me. But after reading the Grand Jury Report, I'm disgusted.

Imagine what his former and current players will be dealing with in the next few months.

just because he said he was moral and ran a core moral value program does not mean he was ever telling the truth.

This quote came from the TIMELINE thread ... kinda buried. This was an opportunity to take Sandusky down. Who ever these people who investigated are need to be questioned and charged with something. I don't know what but something.
"1998: Victim 6 is taken into the locker rooms and showers when he is 11 years old. When Victim 6 is dropped off at home, his hair is wet from showering with Sandusky. His mother reports the incident to the university police, who investigate.
Detective Ronald Schreffler testifies that he and State College Police Department Detective Ralph Ralston, with the consent of the mother of Victim 6, eavesdrop on two conversations the mother of Victim 6 has with Sandusky. Sandusky says he has showered with other boys and Victim 6's mother tries to make Sandusky promise never to shower with a boy again but he will not. At the end of the second conversation, after Sandusky is told he cannot see Victim 6 anymore, Schreffler testifies Sandusky says, "I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won't get it from you. I wish I were dead."
Jerry Lauro, an investigator with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, testifies he and Schreffler interviewed Sandusky, and that Sandusky admits showering naked with Victim 6, admits to hugging Victim 6 while in the shower and admits that it was wrong.
The case is closed after then-Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar decides there will be no criminal charge"
Shame on them for not doing something then.

It had to happen. A total purge of the department. The healing won't start until its cleaned out.

quote:it seems so now, but look at tennessee for isntance. not 2 years into the shite storm that Kiffin left and half the fan base want the coach on a silver platter already
None of these witnesses did anything about it because they were looking to Joe Palester for leadership. He is a God there and he wanted it quit so it stayed quiet. Other than Sandusky himself, Paterno is the most culpable of all because everyone was looking to him and was too scared to do anything without him giving the ok.
fans have very shrot memories. the next coach there won't last 3 years. he will get sympethoy this year. by next year, 2013, the and the kids are sucking the joint up, the fans will say "we are penn state, we are better than this, we have this we have that" and will start to forget what happened. it always happens
quote:
Law 41
Avoid Stepping into a Great Man’s Shoes
What happens first always appears better and more original than what comes after. If you succeed a great man or have a famous parent, you will have to accomplish double their achievements to outshine them. Do not get lost in their shadow, or stuck in a past not of your own making: Establish your own name and identity by changing course. Slay the overbearing father, disparage his legacy, and gain power by shining in your own way.

People, stop trying to come up with analogies to someone knowing about child molesting and not doing everything to stop it. Cause there is no analogy to do it justice.

Yes, Paterno was likely too busy teaching leadership skills to be distracted by a little child rape.
