If they execute it against an unprepared defense, they can come away with two. If they choke it, they suffer for it. If it isn't there, they simply go to PAT formation. Not complicated. I've seen AU do similar things without issue under Gus.
ETA: 95% of the time, AU simply moved back to PAT formation and kicked it without fail.
