I'd have to think that Baylor would be worse for the conference than Rice (when speaking of a smaller school), and that Texas Tech would be too distant far for the East teams. Houston is a larger school than the other three, too.

personally I think texas A&M makes sense and we don't necessarily need another texas school if texas doesn't want to join - since there is no other big school that would garner national attention IMO

Esp with LSU playing A&M and some ooc games like TCU in the future we'll see more interest in Houston

The upper extreme of expansion talk has generally been of 4 16 team conferences that would split and do their own thing. What do y'all think of 4 20 team conferences, each with two divisions of 10 teams, each with a conference championship game?

Texas doesn't want into the SEC. Not because they fear the competition, it's just about the money. Any new deal Texas strikes will have to increase their revenue, and I don't believe they think they'll get that from the SEC.

interesting

what do you base that on? last television revenue I've seen for Texas was teh 2007 season - and teh 10 million they received for that year would be roughly doubled if they joined the SEC or Big 10

while I admit Rice isn't some huge name in Houston, I think if Arky, Bama, LSU are coming to town the coverage would follow
exactly,,
although with A&M you have a foothold in the Houston TV market,

but the $$$ for RICE would allow expansion and facility upgrades and playing in Houston has advantages that playing the CS does not,, PLUS, I dont see A&M and Texas splitting up ,,but it could happen

RICE is a traditional LSU and Arky Rival
great for recruiting purposes,,

although UH is a better fit academically for the SEC,, they might want PRESTIGE

and as has been mentioned in these discussion serves a academic twin to Vandy

The SEC has equal revenue sharing. The Big-12 and Pac-10 don't. I doubt Texas wants to go anywhere where they have to give up revenue to smaller schools

Much prefer 4 16 team conferences. I don't think there are 80 worthwhile teams, and I'd rather play 7 conference games than 9

Don't know about that. UH is not in the latest USN&WR rankings, while only Ole Miss and MSU are not ranked in the SEC currently. (I do see what you're saying, though... I'm just playing with numbers here.)

agreed, however from what ive been told by my fellow UT friends is they dont want to be in the SEC due to the academics. they feel they are above you guys

too many teams per conference with that arrangement

you don't want to have more in conference games than are necessary because then you lose revenue from hosting ooc opponents.

so I don't see any conference wanting to play more than 8 conference games prior to teh conference championship game.

Functionally that probably means 16 teams max - although I guess you could do 18 teams and have NO inter-division matchups prior to teh CCG

If this is true that they are indeed going to offer these school in package with a TV network that doubles their TV revenue from last year, I don't see how they can refuse. If the Pac-10 puts this offer on the table, it's going to get done IMO.

they are ridiculous. setting aside teh school isn't really academics first they have lousy academic schools in teh big 12 right now - and their state government has busied itself with the business of making new textbooks that make academics do face palms

Would Rice necessarily be a better fit for the SEC than Tulane in a 16 team setup? Not flaming or anything, just asking.

Rice has better academic standing and is located in a larger (and largely untapped by the SEC) market, Tulane is an original member of the SEC and has good academic standing with a larger student body.

Houston blows New Orleans media size out the water.

Plus, you have New Orleans already wrapped up, no offense to the greenies but even they know they have no fans....I mean ZERO
