I've got story fatigue on this issue. I want to be able to listen to a podcast about the draft or the CWS and not hear about a guy molesting his cousin over the course of two years. Not a lot to ask
Agreed. This is the first I've commented on it since I first saw it. Didn't think it would get this much play, tbh.

Here's my opinion:

He's a POS. Period. No way around that. But our laws don't dictate that these kinds of people stay locked up forever and, for him, not at all. So if he's going to be a part of society, I'd rather him be able to support himself and get the help/support necessary for that to happen. He's no use homeless and jobless. He's good at baseball. I'm not sure a team will give him a shot now, but if they do, I'm not going to be upset about it.

He'll do fine in Japan. The POS will make a ton of money there and should stay there.

I wish people would stop saying this. Do you really believe 97% go on to never do this again? They have no way of knowing this.

It should read as "Only 3% of juvenile offenders were repeat convictions"

If we have learned anything about rape or child molestation is that a ton of these cases can go on hidden forever or for years.

Ex. Penn State, Cosby.

If you read the article, the stats aren't compiled using convictions.

Not reading it but how is it possible they know they never acted again then?

Because you brought the info here.

I just don't see how they can know without another conviction or without monitoring them full time.

Only 3% of juveniles repeat the offense? Maybe after they are caught. But doing it over and over and over for 2 years is repeating the offense.

And he did not serve his punishment because, as far as I know, the girl's father did not kill or castrate him.

Again, I'm not defending the guy. I'm only relaying studies and articles.

The girl's father must not be in her life but if he is he is an extreme pussy.

"Research shows the longer someone goes without engaging in these type of offenses, the less likely they are to do it in the future. After a couple of years pass and the person hasn't committed the offense, (he) is very unlikely to do so.

"The recidivism rate for juveniles adjudicated of a sex offense is less than 3 percent. Multiple studies across multiple states, including Oregon, all landed in the 2.5 to 3 percent range in terms of re-offense rates — and those percentages are usually figured by arrests, even without conviction."

Figured by arrest. Once again, we know rape and child molestation cases can go hidden for a number of reasons, no charges at all. So those numbers are bull shite, they have no way of knowing if they do not repeat just because of getting caught.

Edit: But yes I read that as a conviction. So the line itself is correct. But it is not some staggering number that makes me think he is rehabilitated or should be forgiven.
