OKC vs SAS pre-series discussion

I’ll preface by saying SA will beat TWolves, if I’m wrong then I’m wrong.
Hoping for some good discussion, we can do all the smack talk once the games start in game threads.
This will be an interesting matchup. Spurs got the best of Thunder in reg season but there’s a lot of banter about who was full strength and who was trying hard and who was sizing up opponent for a - at the time - future playoff matchup potential. They played 5 times so both trams got a lot of film thats for sure.
But all that can be thrown out the window, series will start 0-0.
As for OKC, if the series starts next Wed they will have only played 8 games in 40 days. I think these layoffs showed some rust during the Lakers series, I really don’t like all these gaps they have.
Spurs played last night and should play Thu night however that game is Fri. NBA adds too many days off when you factor the play-in games as well. It really does mess with staying in game shape and rhythm. But thats what you have, so be it.
Before season I had Spurs as contenders next year, but they’ve progressed pretty quickly and are contending this year. Most focus is on Wemby but they’ve built a great roster. I’m looking forward to the series and think it goes 7 games.
Key question for OKC is if JDub can play, as that makes a big difference in how we approach defense and matchups. He’s only played 35 games all season so will be rusty even if back. Most pundits say he will be healthy and play.
Two big changes this year are 2nd year player Ajay Mitchell. He was injured last year in the few months leading up to playoffs so wasn’t part of last year’s playoff rotations, thats a big add. And McCain added from Philly in spring was great vs Suns and Lakers so we’ll see what role he plays. The main thing is how we decide to defend Wemby and SA has a great starting roster so you have to be wise and decide who you let get more attempts. Pick your poison basically, and slow them enough
I think this series will be a great coaching chess match. Chet has really matured this year and playing great. I always worry he looks like an injury waiting to happen but he was an ironman this season and the playing time has really helped him grow as a player. He was 37 of 38 in rim baskets.
OKC has a deep bench and it will be needed. That is usually how these close matchups go.
Anyways, hoping for some good talk without smack. Will be plenty of time for that especially since series will likely span 2.5 weeks.

OKC tries to injure wemby this series
OUGuy either downplays or ignores it completely.

I feel the NBA finals go like this.
If it is Spurs vs Knicks, I think the Knicks win. Towns ability to pull Wemby out of the middle is huge.
If it is Thunder vs Knicks, I think the Thunder win. Knicks have the best starting five in the NBA. Thunder go 12 deep and that is too much in a seven game series for the Knicks to overcome
No other eastern conference team stands a chance against the Spurs or Thunder.

Hey, we got one actual basketball talk post.
And I agree with you. Playoffs are all about matchups. Some teams present challenging matchups and can stifle certain players.
SA takes paint away from OKC and forces more outside shooting or more exotic schemes inside paint to overcome.
That will be intriguing to me, to see what Mark comes up with game plan wise. He may decide to let Wemby get his and shut down the rest.

The Thunder fans are already making excuses and the series hasn’t even started yet?

Only question I have about this hypothetical series, is what's the over/under on number of games that it will take for Dort to try to take out Wemby's knees?

Mmmm sounds like a take that someone makes that does not pay attention to the teams being discussed

I've always hated San Antonio as a Mav's fan so I haven't paid attention to them until this series.
How do they have four first round picks starting including Wemby
These MF'ers have been cheating since the David Robinson days.
Victor Wembanyama Rd 1, Pk 1
De'Aaron Fox Rd 1, Pk 5
Devin Vassell Rd 1, Pk 11
Stephon Castle Rd 1, Pk 4

The spurs didn’t draft De’Aaron Fox. But they did draft Dylan Harper.

The Mavs had Luka and Brunson in the same backcourt and couldn't win or keep it together. Mavs fans should only hate on their own team.

I would assume most teams have all 5, or at least 4, of their starters being first round picks. There are only two rounds

First hoping Spurs can finish off the wolves.
Think they’re a year or two away from taking out OKC but the way Harper and Castle are playing who knows? They could certainly make it a long series.
Right now I would say okc in 6.

Here’s last 6 years for each team. SA came on strong and fast
Some say Spurs need more experience but they have a well rounded roster. They took a huge leap this year
