re: OK it's over where does Pujols end up

The issue with this is that Theo is probably going to see that he can sign Pujols and do nothing else, or try to improve positions that seriously need improving. If the Cubs were a bat away, it would be worth over paying for Pujols, but they're several bats and several arms away from contending.
Theo loves him some old arms.

Pujols will be great for at least 5 more years. Even if the Cubs give him 7 years, he will pay off tenfold in more ways than on the field.
He's a once in a generation player. Even if he's 35, he's worth it. Barry Bonds won 4 straight MVPs from 36-39.

I definitely want Pujols over Prince, no question, if I had to take one, but I would not mind the Cardinals spending every penny keeping him.
I would be pissed if Prince signed with the Cubs. I feel like it will be Albert Haynesworth 2.0. Play awesome, get paid, not give a frick.

He was a lazy frick at UT until his last Season too.

Probably not the best comparison out there.

Yes and no. ARod was supposedly the player of the generation too. The problem with older players is, once they fall, they fall hard. Paying premium money for only above average production cripples teams. ARod's and Jeter's contracts are already hurting the Yankees. Its only going to get worse, because you can't pay all that money for them to sit on the bench, which halts the youth progress.

In his first 10 years I don't think you can compare ARod and Pujols. Pujols has just been that good, imo.

Arod and jeter are stalling younger Yankees? They may be overpaid but they are still playing at a rather high level, at least for now

On pure stats, no. On production directly tied with position? Hell yes. People forget just how offensively bad most shortstops are. A-Rod was not only an A+ bat at a traditional terrible offensive position, he was an A+ defender too.

ARod was pretty fricking incredible himself. I would think they are at least comparable.

I hyperboled a little bit with the right now, but both are obviously declining (especially in the field, Jeter is just brutal at this point) and where do you stick them when they are just unable to play and gotta move to DH?

You do know he's only 31, right?

Pujols is a juicer, too. Just hasn't been caught.

Arod has been 30 and 100 the last three years before this one, and would have gotten there this year if not for injury. Jeter is still more than serviceable.

Well money isn't really a factor to big teams unless they are giving no production. See Vernon wells and soriano. You are hamstrung by their deals. They were never all time treats though, ie pujols & arod

Literally the worst defensive fielder in the entire league not named Carlos Lee.

Its the Yankees, anyone batting in the 3-4-5 hole with regularity is going to be close to 100 RBIs.
His wOBA was .363 last year and is .361 this year. His fielding is obviously average at best, and I'm not arguing that he's not good, I'm arguing that for what they are paying him, he is making a kings ransom. Yes, I really like the Beastie Boys, but if they charged me ten thousand dollars to see them at a concert, I would politely decline.

Everyone on the Yanks is making a king's ransom

I dunno. Steinbrenner is gone and while they are a profit machine right now, nobody can promise that they'll stay that way if they have a couple of bad seasons.

That's pretty far fetched. The yanks and sox have erased all their bad moves over the last 10 years because they have money. That will always be the case in the near future. There are horrible contracts littered up n down their pay rolls. They still survive

True true. I was playing a little slippery slope, but I am completely sure its going to hurt the Red Sox quite a bit. The fans and media are going to keep making Crawford and Lackey's contract an issue if they don't feel they are up to it. Heck, I know during the off season last year before Adrian and Carl, Red Sox fans were openly wondering if Henry cared more about soccer because of the Liverpool acquisition. Fans are very fickle.
