re: Ohio State AD says recruits are asking for 5K just to visit the school

The kids want to know where they are on the pecking orders… because schools will pay that for some to visit but not others
And the big time teams have to pay that… because they absolutely positively cannot ever be perceived as “cheap”. That’s worse for recruiting than losing

That's the dumbest/slimiest thing I've heard in a while.

You can end that practice pretty quick.
Get schools on board to refuse those requests.
We've been down that road before and we all know some programs will continue to pay under the table, placing other programs on uneven playing field.

"A practice of asking a school for a fee to simply visit campus has emerged; asking for $5,000 just to visit has become common."
It has only become common because people have paid it. If you dont pay that out, there is no market for it. I think it is vastly different to have NIL deals set up for a kid if they decide to sign with a team versus paying a fee just to have him come on a visit. That seems really stupid to me.

ost-benefit analysis usually fails to account for the goodwill you generate by liking what your customers like, like the local team.
Gordon’s commercials are a lot less annoying when maason smith is eating double teams before the break.

Why is no one mentioning that this is just outright illegal
This is not NIL (a lot of people still don't understand what NIL is). This is the Ohio State athletic director brazenly admitting that Ohio State is committing recruiting violations.
You cannot pay a recruit to visit campus under the guise of NIL. You cannot pay a recruit at all. A booster and/or third party can give a player NIL money once they arrive on campus. Of course people pay kids under the table regardless. They always have. But this is still illegal.
Ohio high schoolers cannot participate in NIL either, so this doesn't make any sense.

1. No one cares about recruiting violations
2. He isn’t saying that Ohio state does it, just that recruits are asking
We know they are doing it but he chose his words carefully

Wow. Who could have ever foreseen NIL becoming such a problem?!

that would be a turnoff immediately if I was a recruiter

I asked in my first post. Paying a kid 5k just to visit campus has nothing to do with nil.
Next thing you know they will be paying kids to not talk about the illegal stuff they're doing
NIL is a disaster and you have prople preying on a group of people that are largely low income and not intelligent

Wow. Who could have ever foreseen NIL becoming such a problem?!
But away from that - seriously, why does this trigger some of yall so bad?

It is truly amazing how some yall have no concern with literally everything getting more expensive. No wonder you vote the way you do.
How about you give me a compelling reason why a recruits should be paid a fee on top of getting a free visit to a campus? An actual, logical reason rather than "why not."

Find out what?
Kids have been getting paid to go on visits for decades.
This isn’t a new thing

Guess we'll find out if a publicly known $5k appearance fee for some high school kid to visit a campus becomes a thing. Is that detailed enough for you?
Posted on 9/21/23 at 2:45 pm to LNCHBOX
We won’t because as others have said this is illegal.
It will happen as it has for decades but unlikely you’ll see anyone copping to it.
We know it’s a thing because of this AD’s comments and the fact that several schools have been popped for it over the years.

Must be nice to take the side that require no proof that it is happening as you claim.
Posted on 9/21/23 at 2:48 pm to LNCHBOX
So is your argument that some recruits are not getting paid extra to visit these schools?
