I got a kick out of a caddie last year. He was on the par 4, and his player (one of the Euros, I can't remember who) was playing in from about 90 yards. The crowd on the "party deck" for the 17th green was loud and having a good time. The guys up top watching the 17th green didn't realize that right behind them were players playing shots on another hole. The caddie tried his best to quiet them down, then finally gave up and just waved for them to get louder.

What????? When did this happen? Maybe it was already lengthened last year, but I definitely remember a couple of years ago watching Bubba Watson driving the green, only to have his ball roll of the back, and then he failed to get up and down and settled for par.
I do know that the players that played it straight last year, and didn't cut off any of the dogleg, had less than 100 yards to the pin (front pin that day).

wonder why the players rank TPC Louisiana so low

Hall of Famer Pete Dye is often regarded as the master of the modern design, but the TPC Louisiana isn't celebrated as one of his best by the tour rank and file. In a poll of players, it finished 45th out of 52 courses that were evaluated, just a few ticks ahead of last week's critically panned TPC venue in San Antonio. But at least the venues are open to public play for those who want to play on a tour track. Midday tee times at the Avondale, La., course run in the $189 range.

I have heard part of it is that you can get penalized for good shots A LOT. For example you can crush a great drive right down the middle and end up in a bunker that will cost you a stroke. The pros don't like that kind of set up very much. Other stuff like bunkers running the entire length of holes where there would normally be light rough i think plays in to it a little too.
Having played out there a good bit i can see where they are coming from with this.

played with Webb Simpson yesterday. great guy. talked with us all day and helped us read putts when we asked him. dude can flat out play. i guess that is why he is 14th in the world. only missed 1 shot yesterday and missed only 1 putt inside 12 ft. hits every shot the same - on a string. his driver was straighter than my wedge. distance control was remarkable. shot 68 like it was nothing.
i am a +1 handicap and the difference between his game and my game is light years. overall a great day. webb has a new fan.

I saw you yesterday. I don't know which player you were, but I was on #3 tee box as Webb was yelling at Bubba Watson behind you guys. Bubba started ribbing y'all about playing slow or some shite.
Was that Webb's brother out there with him carrying his bag from time to time? Looked just like him.

Said it was lengthened this year to help pace of play. I was a little bummed that was a fun green to sit at the acme oyster tent and watch all day

OP needs to put a link to the leaderboard in the first post for people on phones.

Boo this man!! Booooooo!! (I'm too lazy to search for the gif)
So the PGA tour players think that the course is already too hard, and then the one "fun" hole that you have, you lengthen it to take out the opportunity to drive the green, just to speed up the pace of play? That sucks.

No problem, man. I didn't even look to see who started the thread. I was just making an observation. Texastiger usually starts these things and he must not have much to do because he's always on top of that.
