I've asked that to 2 Europeans. They say its tradition. No idea about their tradition tho. Never looked it up. Maybe they try to turn the game into a level playing field.

I wouldn't want all our tournaments to be match play but once or twice a year I like it. And there are lots of people who watch it BECAUSE Tiger isn't playing. I was sad to see Rory get eliminated.

They lost 2 audiences. The ones who watch to root against Tiger. The ones who only watch Tiger. That's a big fan base.

I'm all for 1-2 tourneys and only in the WGC like it is. But I'd like top 70 golfers play 2 stroke play to get to field of 32 or 16 then match it.

This isn't an viewership group. There might be 10 people who purposely watch a tournament because he's not playing.
You have a group that watch a tournament regardless if he's playing, and he brings in all the casuals. Then some complain about the coverage he gets.

My bracket is f'd up. I guess most people's are. The only person I have left in my final 4 was my long shot, Bo Van Pelt.

Match play in golf is damn near impossible to predict.
