depends on the tournament ... at the shell open in houston, they have in the past made everyone empty pockets and purses and leave cell phones at the gate ... don't think they continued to do that, but can't be sure ... wouldn't surprise me if they make people leave cells at the gate ... i wouldn't have a problem with it, myself ...

How many people will be in attendance for this?
Any idea?

He's the same weirdo who went in and tossed shitty waste 'native' areas all over Pinehurst and called it a redo.
I wanna get in the course redo biz if all it takes is tossing out some waste area around spots that were tough to manage.
there was a little more to it than that ...

a golf tournament has 20-50000 a day, i think ... not sure how many tix they sell or if they have a cutoff ...

A dude I know at the practice round Monday said security is unbelievably tight.

why would a course like Pinehurst put down Champions? I thought that grass was pretty much outdated with much better hybrids out there now...

Champion is still one of the top on the south. If you have the budget for the upkeep it's great. That's why the bluffs use to always be so great. They had the money.

Here's a breakdown of all of the featured groupings for the US Open:
And my 2 personal favorites:
Love the USGA trolling the players like that.

The U.S. Open Group: Webb Simpson, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.
The Other U.S. Open Group: Retief Goosen, Geoff Ogilvy and Lucas Glover.
The Open Championship Group: Ernie Els, Darren Clarke and Louis Oosthuizen.
The PGA Championship Group: Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner and Martin Kaymer.
The Young Guy Group: Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama and Rickie Fowler.
The Old Guy Group: Kenny Perry, Jeff Maggert and Kevin Sutherland.
The BPTHNWAM Group: Sergio Garcia, Jason Day and Brandt Snedeker.
The Other BPTHNWAM Group: Henrik Stenson, Matt Kuchar and Lee Westwood.
The Bomber Group: J.B Holmes, Gary Woodland and Graeme DeLaet.
The Nice Guy Group: Joe Ogilvie, Mark Wilson and Ken Duke.
The Other Nice Guy Group: Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker and Bill Haas.
And my 2 personal favorites:

The Open Am Group is good..
Phil, Rose, Fitzpatrick
Not sure how defending Open, US Open and Am champ is not a feature group.

My super just told me that if they do that they have to have a heating system in place for the cold winters.

It is, but the USGA does that grouping every year. The US Open champ, US Amateur champ, and British Open champ play in the same group every year. Jason Sobel, who wrote the article, was pointing out the thought process the USGA goes through or may have gone through in picking these groupings.

Should have known...Im sure an atricle will come out saying the Masters and Us Open champ has an asterisks.

Just got in from the practice rounds. My BIL is a standard bearer and got a couple of guys I'd never heard of this morning. Got to see Graeme McD leave a few shots short, and Mickelson struggle with Ricky Fowler and Jordan Speith. Dustin Johnson destroyed a drive on #14 and put a 2nd shot close to the pin.
We followed McIlroy for a few holes and he seemed zoned in.
Phones are a no-no unless you have a pass that allows them, and cameras are only allowed for practice rounds thru tomorrow. No cameras starting Thursday, iirc.
Best spot might be the stands at the tee box of #6. You can see the #3, #5, and #6 greens, and #4 and #6 tee boxes. Lots of action in that little intersection.
ETA: we will be there everyday thru Monday(playoff) with putter boy pavilion tickets.
Today was the first day we went up there. I played course #8 on Saturday and we went to the beach on Ocean Isle yesterday and got burnt to a crisp
