my whole point is that his 69 was not a grind it out 69. most people watching his round would say, yeah he could have bettered it by a 1 or 2 shots

Point taken. What I don't understand is why more of these guys don't attempt to emulate Woods's strategy of banging it around with long irons instead of pulling out that driver. I know obviously not all of them are as talented as he is, but I am not convinced that he is the only one out there that can hit knock downs and stingers. I can't figure out if it's ego with these guys or what. Especially Phil, who's a great iron player when he's hitting from the fairway. With the way these greens are, it would seem that the course should be played British Open style, bumping and running, instead of trying to play it like a typical parkland course.

all i'm saying is that if you think he shot the lowest possibly score he could shoot yesterday, you didn't watch his round.

I said he probably left 2 shots out there. But thats it.

In a word...frustration. Example, Bubba carded a double on 18 yesterday after I believe hitting an iron off the tee, he just yanked his second shot right and his club got caught on the chip. You could just see the thought process in his head..."F this, if I'm going to play it safe and hit iron and make double; might as well hit driver and at least be closer to the green". Obviously not smart b/c yanking his approach caused the double, but he had also not played the best up to that point so the frustration mounted.

i would agree. the 65 was thrown out there after threeputt said he has a better chance of missing the cut than leading by a few.

This has probably already been discussed, but Bubba looks like he spent a little too long celebrating the Masters. Now I know his game isn't really set up for a U.S. Open, but he looked lost out there.

Tiger played the best he could possibly play.

Meh. He drove it about as good as he possibly could, but his wedges left a lot to be desired. He could have putted a little better too.

Anybody watching Live from the US Open on Golf Channel? I really can't stand how that douchette says "Miguel Angel JimeneTH". Yea, I know that's how a Spanish person would you say it, but why the frick does she feel the need to change her accent for his name? Just say Jimenez bitch and quit trying to sound cultured.

This. If he keeps hitting the FW's like yesterday he will probably run away with this thing.

IN!

In regards to playing in the afternoon/morning flight, the scoring most of the day yesterday was 74.5 and was 74.9 at the end, less than half a stroke harder it's not THAT big of a difference.

He could have also easily lost 2 strokes more. That long birdie putt he made had so much speed that if it didn't hit the hole, that could have been a 2 shot difference.

The cut line was discussed here last night and the 10 shot rule. USGA has implemented the 10 shot rule for the open. Just a FYI.

Yes, it was discussed at length. The 10 shot rule is NOT in effect.
