Personally I have always associated the US Open with scores right around par, maybe right under, maybe a bit above. But at the same time I have always thought that The Masters was the toughest test of all the majors. It seams though that scores there are usually in the double digits below par or right at it. I know that the US Open has had several double digit under par scores that win, but again I have always found the Open to be even scores.

They just addressed this on the telecast when they were talking about the 670 yard Par 5 this week. Basically, the PGA tries to make the scores high in the US Open, but that doesn't mean the course is difficult. It is counterintuitive, but all the PGA really does is lower par. Sure they leave the rough long, but they don't make the course difficult. There is very little risk/reward.

Now, compare that to Augusta National, which is not incredibly long and most players can be on the par 5s in two, but if you take that risk, you can also easily score a 7 or 8. That is what makes a course difficult. However, the average viewer sees the US Open winner shoot a +2 over four days and thinks the course was tough. You can make a 670 yard hole a par 3 if you want, all the players still have to play it and it doesn't make the course any more difficult.

Tiger long again, if he can dial in his distances he will do quite well.

Why is Tirico surprised Tiger is having problems with his distance control? It's pretty much been a problem all year.

I wish I could use people as bumpers to kick me out of the trees. Would shave at least 5 strokes off my round.

eta - Looks like I am about a minute behind on my phone stream.
