Why was Young put as first rd opponent for Federer? Does the USTA not try to protect the Americans? Or does the ATP set the draw?

I don't know that's why I asked. All I know is they protect seeds but don't use true s curve.

Y'all know how the winner autographs balls and hits them up into the stands after a match? Guess who Fed man found...

For unseeded players, it's random. They pull your name out of a hat. Same for all the majors.

I'll still have Anna Kournikova's wristband from the 1997 U.S. Open. I can't think of any reason I would part with it.

Quick question.

I've been playing tennis for the past ten or so years, and have always wondered why the pro players take three or four balls, squeeze them, then throw them back to the ball boys/girls?

I know they open a new can of balls every couple games, but can it really make that big a difference, or is it just ritualistic?

Bobby can probably answer better than I can, but they wanna make sure they get one that hasn't been used as much, especially toward the end of the use of balls.

that and probably just a bit of routine

I don't think they'e squeezing them as much as they're checking to see whether the felt on the ball is loose and scraggly or still lays flat. Most of them will want to serve with a ball that doesn't have a bad case of bed head.

The balls don't lose air pressure THAT fast. They're not feeling for that. Especially not U.S. Open balls. They are amazing. They last 5 times longer than any other ball (sold to the public...and they do sell US Open balls to the public). If you ever go into a sporting good store, look for the US Open balls. The difference is striking. I don't know how Penn stays in business. You can play with Penn balls maybe 3 times. You can play with US Open balls all Summer.

I'm starting to think that Raonic -- like Dmitrov or even Ryan "I'm not talented enough to get my on-court tantrums overlooked" Harrison -- is one of those players that everybody wants to be great and that everybody thinks *can* be great...but that just never will be great.
