Most on here know that I'm no fan of Tiger, but the way Rory is playing right now is just more of a testament to how awesome Tiger really was. Rory is currently the best player in the game, and he has finished in the top 10 for something like 12 of his last 14 tournments, but he fell way back at Augusta, lost in a playoff last week, and is on the wrong side of the cutline today. I'm thinking that at the same age, Tiger didn't win all the time either, but Tiger missed about 1 or 2 cuts for his first 5 years on tour, and if Tiger was near the lead on Sunday, he took over that tournament and grabbed the trophy. Only Tiger has ever been that solid each time they teed it up.

But Tiger's personal life shouldn't effect a fan's opinion of him is all I'm saying.

Well I lost a ton of respect for him after he was caught. A man that had it MADE and threw it all away. For what?? A piece of arse?????????

Tiger gonna make the cut?

Thoughts?

I HOPE he comes out and shoots -5 to -7 round.

There are holes out there for the taking. Just needs to find the fairway.

I'm not sure if Rory "cares" as much as Tiger did at that age. And that may not be the right word for it. But it almost seems like they don't have that same drive.

ETA: Rory with another bogey, now +3 with 5 holes left.

I don't know why he's struggling on this course.. I shoot at least 12 under on this every time on Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf.

Zach Johnson on fire on the back 9. -4 (-6 on the day and -8 overall) and has a 14' eagle putt on 16.

Laird in the water on 17 looking like a double bogey here.

Why do they always claim this tournament to be the "strongest field of the year?"

1) not a major
2) no Bubba
3) last year no Rors or Westy

Pffft

I know it's a big payday FWIW

1) but the players on Tour view it as the next best thing
2) Bubba is probably the first Masters champion to skip The Players in a long time
3) it caused a ton of controversey. It was a ploy by their agent to force the PGA to relax some of the requirements on the European players. It worked, and most of the big Europeans are back this year.

Well you see, Jacksonville is in Florida, and Florida used to be where NASA would launch the astronauts into space. When the astronauts were ready for lift-off, they used to say, "Let's light this candle!" By screaming "Light the candle," after Tiger Woods had hit his driver, the fan was insuating that Tiger just knocked his drive out of orbit.....

or something like that. :notsureifserious:

Jason Sobel tweet:

Scott Verplank has withdrawn from the tournament due to injury. He will be replaced in the field by Josh Beckett.
